“World-class service in paradise”

My wife and I spent our honeymoon here after getting married in St. Martin.

We also looked at Eden Rock, Le Toiny, and Isle de France but decided on "The Goose" based on recommendations from a friend. To say the least, we weren't disappointed.

The views over Gustavia were spectacular and our room and patio were immense, immaculate--and very private. The plunge pool was the perfect size for a quick dip after a day of shopping or anytime we wanted to feel refreshed.

In terms of service and amenities, we never wanted for anything. The staff addressed us by name from the moment we arrived, and requests for food, drinks, snorkeling equipment, etc. were always handled promptly and with a smile.

The hotel restaurant was expensive, but so is practically everything in St. Barth. The view from our table of the sun setting over the port below and St. Martin in the distance, however, was worth every euro.

There are lots of things within walking distance--downtown Gustavia and all its shops and restaurants for one, Shell Beach for another--but to really appreciate the island you simply must have a vehicle, which was provided for us as part of our honeymoon package.

On future trips we'll most likely go the villa route just to mix things up a bit, but overall the Carl Gustaf was a wonderful experience and is perfect for those who want the best of everything on one of the best islands in the Caribbean.

We had an absolutely fabulous trip to St. Barts and really enjoyed the Carl Gustaf. Our room had a beautiful view and the staff was very friendly. From the pick-up at the airport to our nightly cocktails at the bar the service was wonderful. The plunge pool was great and we really enjoyed the indoor/outdoor nature of the room. The bedroom was totally enclosed and the living area by the plunge pool was open. Loved it--we even bought a painting of the view and rooftop from the hotel.

I would recommend going in the off-season if at all possible. My understanding is that the weather is pretty much the same all year long and we paid half of what we would have during the "season". At $500 a night, it was still quite expensive, but worth every cent!

“I enjoyed my stay”

I read the reviews and decided to give this hotel a try. I stayed in March 2005 for 5 nights. I absolutely loved my room and the plunge pool. Somehow that plunge pool made any slight inconvenience go away, but that could be because it was an unseasonably warm March. I fell into that pool at least three times a day. But here are some of my thoughts (not necessarily criticisms, just thoughts). It is not a hotel for the infirmed or handicapped. You must be able to climb several very steep steps or your enjoyment will be very limited. If that's a concern, call them first and make sure. I climbed 45 steps to my room each night. The staff was very nice but I did encounter one incident where diners (folks not staying at the hotel) overcrowded the restaurant and lounge. When I climbed the twenty steps from my hotel room, I was told I'd have to wait to have dinner for 45 minutes. I guess I expected them to offer me a cocktail, an apology for the inconvenience, and a little more courtesy since I was staying there. It was off season and hotel wasn't completely sold out. Oh well. But it was convenient and centrally located. But I think St. Jean offered a lot more energy and festive spirit. If seclusion is what you want, then Carl Gustaf is it. And sunbathing in your own private pool does have its advantages.

My wife and I recently stayed one night at the Hotel Carl Gustaf. Our room was amazing with plenty of space and lots of amenities, a private plunge pool, and a great view of Gustavia. The staff were extremely friendly and took care of every thinkable detail during our stay. The food was good. As with almost every hotel on St. Barts, the room rate was very expensive, even during the off season and with dinner included. While we enjoyed our stay, we would probably try other hotels on St. Barts if we were going to spend that kind of money again.
