“Fine food at decent prices if you can stand the loud music.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2011

Our visit in the low season was at a time in the early evening when we were the first guests to arrive. The loud, jazzy music blaring from the speakers almost turned us around at the door, but we decided to endure it based on the food recommendations here on TripAdvisor. The service was good but not outstanding (well, maybe outstanding under mainland France standards). We split an appetizer of escargo which was outstanding, and some of the wine prices were not bad for quite good wine. Both of us ordered the grilled seafood combination, which was a medley of seafood in a buttery, exotic sauce. The servings were so large we could probably have made three meals for two out of them; we took out in a box the bulk of the meal to eat the following day or sol

The decor is wild Africa, which really sets this place apart. Did I mention the loud music? We left as soon as possible, and would like to give this one a top rating, but would not return because of this. If you are not averse to a beat that would seem less out of place in a Jamaican beach bar, give it a try.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2011

There are many top of the line gourmet restaurants in St. Barts. One of the best and most reasonable is K'fe Massai. The ambience is quite romantic and the food is just wonderful. Anything we have ordered from there has been an epicurian delite, especially the seafood.
This, like many St. Bart's restaurants does not open until 7:00 pm. Try to get there early and walk the beach at Eden Rock / Niki Beach (St. Jean) and then head over and walk the beach at Lorient. Then go and enjoy a wonderful eveing at K'fe Massai.

“K'fe Massai - Consistent. Excellent.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2010

We've eaten @ K'fe Massai at least 3 times and though the menu has been about the same each time over the past 3 years, it's consistently excellent. The food is prepared well (do you have any idea how hard it is to get properly prepared risotto? Let me tell you - it's incredibly hard in the US. Most restaurants serve porridge...) and is full of flavor. The Prix Fixe menus are always nice to have as a choice - and the a la carte selections and specials mix it up just enough to make it interesting.

The atmosphere of the place itself is an outdoor, African hut theme and yet there is a modern-ness to it, from the furniture to the decor around the place, to the large, beautiful bar and the french house music to the postcard-like menus and other small touches (bread baskets that look like those from the movie "the jungle book" that the women carried on their heads; napkin holders of the same style). There's ample parking (a rare commodity on SB). It's located at the outskirts of Lorient...

The staff is also very attentive and friendly - English speaking and willing to engage with opinion or other helpful information regarding the menu. In fact, they are very very nice all the time every time we've been there.

On to the food! This time around we had 2 orders of the cauliflower soup - awesome cream-based soup - snails ("divine") and scallops ("fantastic") as appetizers - going with different variants of the prix fixe menus.

For entrees, we had the fish special (Sea bream) which was served whole, and was filleted by the server and deemed excellent. There was a light dijon-cream sauce served on the side that was lovely. Another was the mahi-mahi, which was also very good. The risotto, perfectly cooked, with truffles, was awesome (and the portion perfect). and the goat-cheese salad, a special - served in 3 ways ("so good!").

For dessert we tried the chocolate trio (nice), the Ti-punch (sorbet with a shot of vanilla rhum - oui oui!), and the pear tart (oh my god that was SO good). They finished off the meal with ginger rhum shots as usual. The food is - as stated before - excellent. No doubt this is the reason to go to this place.

The wine list is also simply OK - and we went with a bottle of white from Mercurey - reasonably priced. Good with the fish.

K'fe Massai may not be the most innovative or trend-setting cuisine on the island - but it certainly has proven itself to be exemplary and consistent. You're looking at paying a reasonable amount - we spent (including the wine - 30-40 Euros) 212 Euros for a party of 4 (so about 50 Euros each). On SB - that's not a bad night out...

Here's the negatives: The place is located adjacent to the Oasis Market - the parking lot is right up on the side of the restaurant and if there's any honking or other such noise - you'll get to enjoy (sarcasm) it. If a dog happens to be in the vicinity and if it happens to bark - you'll hear it (we sat outside at the back of the restaurant - we heard it all). Did it ruin our night? No. Mosquitos are an issue - BRING SOME REPELLENT or put it on before hand.

“Excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2010

My husband and I ate here last night. We were very glad we decided to try this restaurant. The food was very good and reasonably priced for St. Barts. The service was friendly and relaxed. The atmosphere was somewhat Indonesian - very nice. We will definitely return on future trips.

“Very average food, nice ambiance”

Not very impressive food. Ambiance is pleasant but entirely outdoor-- if you don't like the heat don't go....
