“A true Caribbean luxury hotel”

Hotel Manapany

My wife and I were recommended to Manapany by friends who live in Tuscany. They have been to the hotel a few times and love it, perhaps in part because the resort is owned by an Italian family and it maintains a Mediterranean sensibility. We stayed just before high season, at the beginning of December, in a Beachfront Junior Suite at a very attractive rate.We had a lot of space, I guess over 600 square feet, terra-cotta tiled floors, a king size four-poster bed, an LCD TV with a DVD and CD player. The bathroom was marble with Philippe Starck faucets and shower head. We thought it was really luxurious. Plus we had a very large private deck, built right on the sand with a spectacular ocean view. We were VIP'd (I guess because of our friends' connection) and it was so romantic sipping our Champagne at night just a few feet from the sea. We only had one dinner at Fellini , the hotel restaurant, that was very good- how unusual to have fresh pasta in Saint Barth's- overlooking the ocean.

I read the other reviews on this site and have to say that we really loved Manapany. In a way the resort reminded us of the way the Caribbean used to be- uncommercial and not trying hard to impress-

“Never again”

How this establishment manages to keep its four star luxury banner is a mystery not only for us who stayed there but for many islanders. The bed was dirty, food terrible, breakfast poor, staff underqualified and rare, management contemptful, common rooms unkempt, service under all standards and prices dishonest. There are other hotels of all sorts on this beautiful island. For the same price, go to the Guanahany, or grade yourself up to the Toiny or Eden Rock for example (there are others). For a good bargain, go to Emeraude Plage and for a wonderful lobster and very reasonable prices, Baie des Anges. But whatever you do, don't set a foot in the Manapany.

Seeing only two recent reviews I thought I'd write one for our visit in November of 2004. The staff was generally pleasant and helpful (the hotel manager picked us up from the ferry). Since our stay was on the cusp of the shoulder/high season, a fair amount of the hotel was vacant. I think the only other people there were the models and crew shooting a Victoria's Secret catalog. I wouldn't say the staff was indifferent to a lot of things, just that they're not analy retentive. But since we don't like being lorded over, that suited us just fine. The drive to the hotel took us through a working class neighborhood; even things on property might look as if someone stopped working on them a month or so and haven't returned, but that seems less of problem than part of the spirit of the place.

We loved our room (garden view). It had a sofa and dining table in what is essentially an enclosed balcony; the TV (mostly French channels) was in the bedroom. The furniture was nice, as was the bathroom. Everything was in good to excellent condition. The beach was a tad rocky, but the pool was very nice. We were very relaxed and can't wait to go back. If you want someone at your beck and call every instant or crown molding and chandeliers, try the Ritz in San Juan.

“poor service”

My Family and I have just returned from a trip to St. Barts and stayed at this hotel and I would advise no one to stay here.
The rooms were barely maintained. The water in my bathroom came is spurts and the toliet was in need of repair. the management ignored all requests to fix the situation and overall treated us with contempt.
This property is not maintained and most of the staff couldn't care less about the guests staying at the hotel. Spend your money where at least it will be appreciated

“Not a 4 Star!!!!”

Hotel Manapany

Definitely not a 4 star hotel. My husband surprised me with this trip. Horrible service. No shower for 3 out of 8 days and a $100.00 credit? Hotel staff is inexperienced and brush up on your French or you will be at a loss. Overall very disapointing! Look into the Eden Rock, Guanihani or Ile de France..Beautiful, classy resorts and excellent service. There is actually action and activity unlike manapany which is dead because the bar and restaurant are not up to par for the island!
