This was our 20th anniversary destination, we visited in July. We loved the service and beauty of the Isle De France. All though it was the "off season" the hotel was almost at capacity all week. Ofcourse the hotel only has around 30 rooms. Most of the time we had the beach to ourselves and the beach at the IDF is just beautiful.
The pool is small, which we did not care about. My only complaint all week was that some people would leave there things on the pool chairs to claim them all day. The week were there was windy so some times we would try the pool which had wind protection.
The rooms are beautiful, our room was on the second floor looking out at the water and the pool. The bathrooms are huge!!The closets enormous, it was hard to come home to mine.
The breakfast was perfect. The buffet had all sorts of fruit, cereal, croissants ,yogurt , cheese. Omelettes etc. were available if you want them.
The maid servive was twice a day. at turn down they would leave a cookie occasionally, but usually they would leave a MOLTEN BROWN cream or masque, which I loved. Don't miss the spa, my husband has not stopped talking about the fabulous massage he received. The spa facility is quite new and immaculate.
Sophie and the staff were lovely..unobtrusive , but very much available to suggest a restaurant , great beach etc. They went out of there way to find us when a family member back home was trying to reach us. It was impressive.
The shopping, the food, the beauty of the island is all quite heady.... I am already planning my next escape to Saint B.

We just booked our return trip next year based on our great experience at the Isle de France this year and I highly recommend it. After having looked through all the reviews on Tripadvisor for high-end inns and resorts in the Caribbean and having found mixed reviews on the bigger hotels on the bigger islands, we found almost unanimous praise for the Isle de France and St. Barts and decided to take our spring vacation here. We were not disappointed. The hotel sent a car to pick us up at the airport (10 minute ride) and we were greeted with a glass of champagne and snacks before being shown to our rooms. The staff generally was very nice and helpful at all times. We had two adjoining garden bungalow rooms, opposite the main building that houses the beachfront rooms. While those rooms have a better view, of the ocean, the garden rooms are quiet, lovely and only a short distance from the beach. The rooms had huge, comfortable beds, a large bathroom with shower and tub, and an outdoor patio. Two of the hotel's three (small)pools were nearby the garden rooms and almost always empty. There is a lighted tennis court nearby, as well as the spa (beautiful) and fitness center (small but adequate). There is also a small business center in the main building, with access to the internet. The beach is flawless, described as the best hotel beach on the island, and true. The weather when we were there in mid-April was perfect, sunny and in the low 80s each day, only a couple of days of late night showers. While expensive, the hotel "packages" including breakfast, rental car, cruise and cocktails make it seem a bit more reasonable; check their website for details and new photos. Given the exclusive nature of St. Barts, spending a lot for food and lodging is to be expected, especially with prices in Euros. The food at the hotel was very good, but we ventured out with our rental car in the evenings and for lunch (on winding roads in small cars) and most restaurants are beyond compare, very French with an island twist.
If you want a relaxed vacation with great weather, great beaches and great restaurants, with a small island atmosphere, St. Barts is the place, and the Isle de France a top choice. If only the airport at St. Maarten could be eliminated (what a nightmare) life would indeed be perfect. Go and enjoy!

“Wonderful Hotel”

Hotel St. Barts Isle de France

My wife and I returned to the Isle de France for the 2nd time (our last visit was in June 05). The hotel has retained their great crew of staff, all very friendly and attentive. We were greeted with champagne and a sushi appetizer/assorted cheeses. We stayed in a beachfront room on the second floor. The balcony area was huge with a bar area, patio table and two lounge chairs that overlooked the pool and ocean. The condition of the room was excellent and very clean. Bathroom area was very large with marble shower and tub. Food at the hotel was excellent. The beach where this hotel is situated was the nicest, in my opinion, Eden Rock a close second and Guanahani third (we saw all three first hand). The Isle de France is more secluded if that is your preference, Eden Rock a bit more busy since it is right in town of St. Jean. You are just a 10 minute drive to Gustavia from Isle de France and about 7 minutes to St. Jean. It took some time to overcome the apprehension of driving on the very narrow and hilly roads. Casa Nikki is a happening place at night, I suggest you use taxi service and not risk driving at night (especially after having some drinks). The spa was first class, my wife enjoyed her massage. We had dinner one night at the Eden Rock hotel which was also excellent. In walking distance from the Isle de France is another restaurant, La Langouste, best known for their grilled lobsters. This hotel really lives up to its reputation and we look forward to our next trip back.

This was our first time to St. Barth and I had been looking forward to "experiencing" this supposedly "fabulous" island. I was not disappointed; the island is visually spectacular, cosmopolitan, and not commercialized. The arriving flight on 12 seat plane is somewhat exhilerating and terrifing at the same time because the landing strip is very small and situated at the end of a lagoon at the bottom of a small mountain. YIKES! Consequently, it can only accommodate small prop planes which allows the island to keep the number of turists to a minimum. There are plenty of gourmet restaurants (especially the hotel's establishment) BUT all of these wonderful things come at a steep price. Appetizers can easily begin at 20 euros and main entrees begin in the high 30's. The Isle de France is situated on the most beautiful beach (in my opinion) but, once again, you pay for it. The beachfront room we stayed in was 1075 euro a night and wasn't much bigger then a typical hotel room. The room did have a marble bath and was overall elegant-looking but for that amount of money i would have expected more "room". The spa at the facility is great but the gym is really lacking. There are zero windows, limited AC, old rusty weights and equipment, and it is the size of a large closet. Why not build a gym with a view on the picturesque island?? Overall, the staff was helpful and friendly but at times became somewhat "short" and stand-offish if more then a couple of questions were asked. We went for drinks at a number of other hotels on the island to see what we may have missed but I am comfortable knowing that if you want to stay ON the beach and feel like you're on the French Riveria - the Isle de France is the place! We would certainly return to the hotel because of its wonderful location, beach, and cuisine but just know that you're going to pay for it.
