A small bar & outside grill. The name : “Le Select” will certainly fool everyone. It is a hole-in-the-wall kind of bar that is located on a small street corner. It has an outdoor patio area with cheap plastic chairs and a couple old picnic tables. Inside the bar it is very run down, very old, and everything is dusty. I’m not really very picky when I travel the Caribbean, but I had heard good things about St. Barth’s island, and in particular had heard that Jimmy Buffet had been inspired to write his “Cheeseburger” song after visiting this bar….. So that story goes. Well, St. Barth’s is certainly not paradise and Le Select’s grill is no place for a burger & beer. In fact, of the many, many caribbean Islands my wife & I have visited….. I’d guess that St. Barth’s is our least favorite. And Le Select seems to be the kind of place that only the homeless or a stumbling drunk would possibly feel comfortable at. However, there is “Cheeseburger in Paradise” sign on the patio to get yourselves in a picture with. :)
I have no idea what Buffet was thinking…. Maybe he was absolutely hammered; then after he sobered up, confused this place with some other bar, on a different island.
I would not go out of your way to find this place - like I did.
