El Momo Cottages

El Momo Cottages was my first stop on the breath-taking island of Saba. Although very few people have heard of Saba it is well known among divers as being one of the best dive destinations in the world. I believe Saba is truly one of the Caribbean’s best kept secrets and would rate the island as number one for anyone who wants to relax and enjoy nature at its best.

El Momo Cottages- is a cozy eco-hotel that is enhanced by the warm and charming hospitality of it’s owners – Oliver and Angelika Hartleib. Only 28 miles from St. Maarten, this island haven can easily be reached by ferry or airplane.

Nature lovers who enjoy breath-taking views overlooking a deep blue sea and ocean sunsets will find El Momo to be the perfect retreat.

Six small spotlessly clean cottages are tucked onto the hillside in a “Robinson Crusoe-like setting where you can get away from the business of the “real world.”

The hotel is a tranquil heaven where a maximum of 11 guests can relax and enjoy spectacular views from their cottage balcony or the delightful hillside pool. I absolutely loved the views from the dining terrace as I enjoyed a wonderful home cooked breakfast each morning.

Quite honestly my visit to El Momo is one of the most memorable travel memories that I have ever experienced – it was absolutely enchanting!

The view, the frogs singing at night, the cool breeze through the windows, the peace, comfort, and safety. This is what we enjoyed so much about El Momo on Saba. Oliver and Angelica are the best! The kids are great, their pets are well behaved. What a special family to allow others a peek into their perfect peacful island lives! The cottages are comfortable and very clean. The breakfast is homemade and delicious. Our afternoons were spent at the glass making shop learning to make beautiful glass treasures, or hiking the cool trails of Mt. Scenery. An island tour was arranged by El Momo and was even more complete than we expected. Our tour guide took us to his home and we ate fresh avocados from his tree. The island restaurants are well stocked and the local people are very friendly and helpful. Saba is an island we will return to again, and El Momo is a great place to come home to!

We had a wonderful 3 days on the green rock. After a week in St. Maarten, Saba felt like an enormous departure from so called "friendly island". Saba was far more friendly and stunningly beautiful. Visiting Saba was like visiting the neighborhood that your parents and grandparents lived in for 80+ years. Everyone treats you like family, you can leave the doors unlocked- open even, and there were wonderful discoveries around every corner.
Owners Angelika and Oliver were our personal guides to the island. To start, they helped us to find a yoga instructor who's one hour private session helped us to decompress from our travel and start our trip off right. Every night they arranged a wonderful dinner for us. We were very impressed with each place they sent us. They sent us on two wonderful hikes into the amazing terrain of Saba. The cottage itself was cozy and clean. We stayed in the Iguana cottage and we loved the amazing view and the symphony of tree frogs that serenaded us to sleep. Every morning we went to breakfast at the covered patio where Fanny served beautiful home made yogurt, bread, eggs, fresh tropical fruits, and YUMMY banana marmalade. Fanny's smiling face was a great way to start the day in Saba.
Lastly, remember to do some hiking training before getting to Saba. We counted 121 steps from the street to our cottage. This mountainous beauty kept us challenged with beautiful trails and steep roads around the island. We can't wait to return to Saba!

Rustic cottage with great views in a natural setting. Oliver and Angelika, the owners of the hotel, were very gracious, arranging hotel reservations, taxis and for all other needs. WiFi access was a big plus to us, as we used Skype to talk to our kids every night. Breakfast was great too. Don't miss the banana spread. We dove with Sea Saba who runs a great operation. The food on the island is excellent. We ate at Brigadoon, Queens Garden, and the Gate House, which were all excellent, even by NYC standards.

My wife and I stayed at El Momo as part of our honeymoon trip through Anguilla, St Martin and Saba. The expience we had at El Momo was by far the favorite part of our trip. El Momo and Saba are both truly special. We had the "Cottage in the Sky". The title is fitting as we had a beautiful view of Saba, the sea, and some spectacular sunsets. The cottage itself was very lovely. The bed was comfortable and had a great view. There was a kitchen, which also has a great view. My wife and I enjoyed the lack of mosquitos. We also enjoyed the cool breaze that would blow through the cottage each night. El Momo's hosts are wonderful! It was like you were a guest in there home. We also enjoyed one of their home-cooked meals. Not only as the food terrrifc, but the other guests at El Momo are very very friendly.

Saba is truly amazing. It scenery, diving, hiking, and people are like nowhere else on earth! El Momo is by far the best way to enjoy Saba. I'd recommend it to anyone!
