“Quite a climb!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

My boyfriend and i tackled Mt Scenery after a full morning of hiking (having already done Sandy Cruz, The Ladder, and the Crispeen Trail from The Bottom to Windwardside. The steps could be tricky on tired legs, but the trail is very clear, and well kept for people to walk on. When we reached the top (50 minutes later instead of the stated 90) we chose to go to the summit instead of the lookout, because there was thick cloud. It was a totally different track from on the way up, it was through mud and cloud forest, and ended in a climb through a cave and then a scamper up the rocks to get to the marker at the top. it was GREAT, but that kind of thing is totally up my alley. If your not into getting muddy and crawling through caves, i would suggest going to the lookout instead. There is ofter thick cloud on the top of mount scenery, but the view from below the cloud line is amazing (as it is from most places on Saba) and i bet if it was a clear day you would be able to see forever.

“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

This is a pretty difficult hike as the sign at the bottom tells you "90 minutes one way" Be careful because as you get towards the top, the stairs get taller and slippery. When we got to the top, it was all clouds so you couldn't see anything, but was still kind of a really cool feeling to look over the edge and see nothing but white. When you hike back down, make sure to stop at the Mt. Scenery lodge to pick up your certificate of completion and try some locally made rum. The nice lady running the shop said she has climbed the mountain about 18 times and has only seen a clear view from the top once, so I didn't feel too bad. Definitely bring water, a walking stick, and comfortable shoes with some traction.

“Arrange a massage for the next day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013 via mobile

This hike is very challenging, even for people who are in moderately well shape. As previous reviews mention, be sure to bring a walking stick, water, and a snack (to enjoy at the top). My husband and I got a sandwich from Saba Snack and brought it up. We ate it and waited for the clouds to clear. Lucky for us, they did! We also enjoyed squeezing the juice of a lemon from a tree on the trail into our water. A very unique experience!

“Strenuous climb, beautiful views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

We have done this trail twice so far. This time, we decided to hike up the Bud mountain trail to the Mt. Scenery trail, which proved to be a much better choice. This trail joins the Mt. Scenery trail within a 20 minute walk of the top, so it easily bypasses hundreds of stairs and is a much less travelled hike. Unless you really want to experience all the stairs (we did this the first time), the hike along the Bud mountain trail is a much more enjoyable way to reach the top of Mt. Scenery. It is shaded in many parts, unlike the Mt. Scenery steps, which are very open to the sun and can be tedious at times. Doing the stairs is not an easy hike, as they can be quite steep in parts, as well as slippery after a rain. You must wait for a clear day - we waited 3 days before the clouds cleared from the mountain - and lots of water, plus a snack, is a must. It can be chilly at the top and breezy. But it is a unique experience to look into the fairy-tail valley below and the tiny airport on the other side. May sure you take in both views (there are 2 trails at the top). (Also note that the original Bud mountain trail described in the green hiking book did not join to Mt. Scenery at the time the guide was written.)

“Make sure there are no clouds around the peak!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

We are no hikers at all, but we made it to the top of Mount Scenery. Make sure there are no clouds around the peak (usually before noon) as otherwise you do not get to enjoy the views.
The trail is heavy, over 1000 steps (high ones) and some parts are slippery. So be careful.
But the view makes up to all of this, it is amazing! And of course, the highest peak of The Netherlands!
