Taking a ferry from Guadeloupe to St. Lucia was an exciting experience. I spent some time on Guadeloupe by myself and then planned to vacation with some friends on St. Lucia. Instead of flying back to San Juan and back down to St. Lucia, I decided to take a ferry. On their web site I found out that L'Expresse Des Iles had a ferry that sailed from Guadeloupe to Dominica and Martinique and on to St. Lucia.
I spent most of the six hour trip on their sleek, modern ferry standing out on the upper deck where I could enjoy the views and the wind and the sea spray. There were also plenty of comfortable seats inside. Part of the excitement was making port on Dominica and Martinique and then sailing into the beautiful port of Castries in St. Lucia.
On L'Expresse Des Iles' web site I found out that this particular service was offered on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. I was a little anxious when I could not figure out how to buy the ticket on their web site before leaving home. I finally found out that it would be easy to buy the $94 ticket at the port in Pointe-a-Pitre in Guadeloupe. Once in the Caribbean I found this ferry an exciting alternative to flying from island to island.
