“Great Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

Came here for 3 days on the tail end of our honeymoon. The rooms were clean and nice. Property managers were excellent and took the time to give us some recommendations and tips upon our arrival. The hotel was kind of hard to find with the bad tourist map we got at Cieba Airport. The morning breakfast was good and it was nice they had beach chairs, umbrellas and ice bags for use for all the guests. They even had a dry bag for us to use when snorkeling.

I picked this hotel because of the good reviews. This was my first trip to Vieques so I knew nothing about the island. I was completely happy with Bravo Beach Hotel. The grounds are lovely, it has two beautiful pools, the room was clean and comfortable, the bed and bedding were comfortable and everything on the grounds was clean and well kept. The owner was extremely nice, you never felt like you were bothering him when you dropped by the office with a need or question. He was there to point you in the right direction, make arrangements for you, or take care of anything you needed. The breakfast was nice, nothing fancy, but fresh fruit, cereal, toast, hard boiled eggs, coffee, juice. I loved having coffee on the ocean side of the property each morning and a drink each night on the island side of the property (after dark there is a symphony of sounds from tree frogs - or something - I just know it was fun to listen to). The location of the hotel is very convenient to Isabel II - just walk down the hill and you are in town!! The ferry dock is the first thing you come to on your way to town. I had a car but whenever I just wanted to go into town to pick something up, grab a drink, or go out to eat I just walked. You do need a car to get to the best swimming beaches which are on the south side of the island. The beach at the hotel is fine for listening to the ocean but not really good for swimming. I thought this hotel was safe & comfortable with great service and a very welcoming atmosphere!! Oh Yes!! Almost forgot - the thing I loved the most about this hotel was NO ROOM KEY!! Each room had a keypad on the door where you typed in your secret room code (no worries, you will remember your code easily). The thing I hate the most about hotel rooms is always searching for some key or card to do even the simplest errand like run to the ice machine!! The code thing made life so much simpler!! I can not wait to go back to the beautiful beaches of Vieques and the hospitality of the Bravo Beach Hotel.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view room!

You can leave the hustle and bustle of home but keep all the comforts. Large beautiful room (El Jardin Suite). Even with neighbors above and to the side, the room was as quiet as can be. Only the ocean to hear. I love how secure they keep the property. They are always ready to help you with whatever you need. Breakfast could have been better, but there are a number of nearby places to get a nice breakfast from. We would definitely stay here again.

Danika and I went to Vieques for the first portion of our 10 day trip in Puerto Rico. I chose Bravo Beach based on the reviews I read on Trip Advisor and I am beyond happy with my choice!
When we arrived, we were greeted immediately by the owner (who happens to be from our home town) and we were shown the property and introduced to their wonderful pups, Milly and Pablo! He also gave us a detailed map of Vieques and gave us GREAT information right down to the details (only use this gas station, never ever eat as this Chinese restaurant or Pizza shop, etc..) We had an ocean view room on the top floor and the room was great. The rooms are very simple - bed, great full length mirror, nigh stand, bathroom, tv, iPod dock and a small refrigerator. The pictures of the rooms on their website are a perfect depiction of what they are like in person. We had a great, sunny balcony to sit on in the morning and watch the ocean. The room was spotless and the entire resort was clean and well kept.
We definitely enjoyed this place and would recommend it to anyone traveling the Vieques!
To us, the only downside was the location. This spot of Vieques is pretty sleepy (but that could be a plus as well!). Most of the restaurants, bars, activities are down south but the island is so small, it's only a 15-20 minute drive to get down there. But this is truly a great hotel with wonderful and extremely helpful owners! We hope to come back!

This was our favorite place we stayed during our trip and wanted to stay longer! We were in the honeymoon suite which was very nice! Windows on three sides of the room, overlooking the ocean. Private balcony, which was huge. Very large closet area and bathroom with a tub.

Room amenities that we appreciated: ipod docking station/alarm clock, Tommy Bahama toiletries in the shower, large mini-fridge in the room, comfortable linens, air conditioning.

Other wonderful touches: honor bar (which is great if you want a couple beers by the pool), two swimming pools, snorkel equipment, beach chairs, coolers and umbrellas to borrow on a first come first serve basis (free of charge).

The grounds were wonderful, clean and beautiful. Lots of flowers, plants and palm trees. It's not a huge property with open spaces, but we never felt crowded by other guests at all. Other than at breakfast, we didn't see much of the other guests.

Breakfast was alright. Toast, juices, fruit, hard-boiled eggs and fruit. I know the owners would like to eventually expand the breakfast area and offer more choices.

We will definitely be back! We just loved this place!!

Room Tip: Spring for the honeymoon suite! It was roomy, well-appointed and offered spectacular views!

BBH is a great home base for exploring Vieques and is an incredible value for the $$$ based on the location, service and quality of amenities included in the nightly rate.

Honestly - I was concerned as I had no idea what we were getting into when booking a trip to Vieques. Our goal for traveling there was to explore their amazing beaches. However we could not have been more pleased with our choice of BBH as the hotel for our stay on the island. It not only met our every need, it also exceeded our expectations.

Why you should book BBH...
- Location - on the ocean and in the town of Isabel, which provides quick and easy (walking) access to restaurants, shops, etc.
- Service - Carl and Janna could not have been more hospitable and helpful to us during our stay and provided great recommendations on beaches, restaurants, etc.
- Amenities...too many to mention:

Ocean front pool - great place to relax and watch the waves roll onto the North Shore. It was like having a private pool on one afternoon as we were the only guests enjoying it.

Beach gear - we used the heck out of the beach towels, cooler bags, beach chairs, etc., all of which were plentiful, available and included in the nightly rate. This amenity alone is worth booking if your main objective is exploring the world class beaches this island has to offer.

Honor bar - was so convenient and reasonably priced, it made prepping for a day at the beach easy and hassle free. So nice to see a hotel not soak its guests with outrageous costs for water, sodas, etc.

Free Continental Breakfast - basic but met our needs for getting the day started with some coffee, fruit, etc.

What it is...
- Great for lower maintenance travelers who don't require the trappings of a high-end resort (book the W if that is your thing)
- Perfect base of operations for visiting Vieques beaches
- Easy walking distance to several good restaurants and bars, the ferry terminal, and town of Isabel (however would highly recommend renting a Jeep to help you get around during your stay and hotel had ample parking.)
- Modern design with clean lines and minimal furnishings (which I liked but the husband referred to as "spartan." Room had TV but no phone - which wasn't an issue as our cell phones worked and the owners were happy to help you connect when needed)

What it is not...
- Pretentious
- Overpriced

Room Tip: Book ocean front room on second floor for great views and balcony

There were many wonderful things about The Bravo Beach Hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and the sleeper sofa was air inflated, very comfortable, and seemed new. There was room for a small table and chairs in the room and it would have been a nice addition. There was plenty of space but no where to sit other than on the beds when the couch was folded out. When it rained there were not many places to sit for breakfast that weren't completely outside. It was clear that this hotel is a work in progress for Jenna and Carl and they continue to try and upgrade. The pools and the view were also lovely. One of our favorite things about BBH was the generous supply of snorkel gear, beach chairs, umbrella's, cooler bags and boogie boards that were left out for guests to use. There were also nice, large towels for the beach and pool. We could grab gear and head out to a different beach every day. To get the most out of Vieques, you need to rent a 4wd, though, and BBH has ample parking. Also, they had an honor bar which was reasonably priced and well stocked. A great idea!

We were most disappointed with the breakfast. The same cereal, bread, jam, hard boiled eggs and fruit, daily. It was hard to believe in a place where fresh fruit was everywhere that the cut up fruit at breakfast was unripe. The pineapple was inedible and we ended up buying mangos, yogurt and bananas and keeping them in our room. Our daughter has a serious nut allergy and Carl said that he wasn't sure if the Cheerios were honey-nut. In general, it seemed like Jenna was the person to ask and she would bend over backwards to get you what you needed.

Some of the people we met were shocked at the prices we paid at bbh. They said that there were much less expensive options. I do think, however that the amenities outweighed the faults. Hopefully they will keep improving.

Dear familywith2kidsNj,

Thank you for taking the time to review the Bravo Beach Hotel.

We are sorry to hear you found our continental breakfast disappointing. The breakfast consists of cereals, hard boiled eggs, a variety of breads for toasting (including local artisan breads when available), jams, fresh fruit (purchased weekly from the island’s only organic market), milk, soy milk, orange juice, coffee and tea. Vieques is an island off island, and getting a variety of items that are fresh and high quality can be a challenge – especially when trying to meet the needs of guests with allergies. We do our best, but we also understand that this will not satisfy everyone’s tastes or needs.

Regarding your comments concerning the price, we know we are not the least expensive option or the most expensive option on island. We are, however, competitively priced for the amenities we offer - daily continental breakfast, TVs with DishNetwork in each room, free use of beach chairs and coolers, 2 swimming pools and ample on-site parking. We are also one of only a handful of hotels on island that are ocean front.

We appreciate hearing your feedback about the positives and negatives of your stay. We are always working to improve/enhance the property and services we offer. Even though we did not meet your needs/expectations in all areas, we are happy to know that you did enjoy your overall stay with us and use of the amenities.

Thank you,

Janna Halberg
