as the title states, i cannot say enough good things about Casa de Amistad and the two wonderful men who run it. the guesthouse is very clean, beautifully decorated, and conveniently located just off the main strip in Isabel Segunda. Owen and David were exceptionally helpful from the minute we walked in the door. they pulled out a map and told us of the best beaches to visit and restaurants to eat at. it felt like we were welcome guests in someone's home rather than people passing through a hotel. many times during our stay, we fantasised that it was our own home.

the pool in the back terrace was a wonderful spot to cool down after a long day of beaching, and it was mesmerising watching the little lizard hopping around their verdant garden.

they had beach towels, beach chairs, and snorkel gear available, which was very convenient, and the rooftop deck was a great place to relax in the evening and watch the sunset.

we highly recommend that anyone going to Vieques and looking for a restful, relaxing, and very friendly experience stay at Casa de Amistad.

although the town is a little tough, the hotel is great and people are friendly. Enjoy the roof deck....and the morning coffee. Gay friendly, as is most of the island. Just follow the rule of the island: don't leave anything in car!

Vieques is quiet, unpretentious, and beautiful. The beaches are heavenly. There are no major resorts (OK... one... but you know what I mean, its not a 'developed' island). So the accomodation options you have are limited, but that doesn't mean bad. Casa de Amistad is a small guesthouse (kinda half hotel and half B&B), with a friendly staff. Rooms are comfortable, clean, have A/C, and decorated with IKEA stuff.
Staff has great knowledge of beaches, restaraunts, snorkelling spots, etc.
You MUST rent a car to see the island. And a good map. Getting to the beaches is half the fun.

We stayed at a small rental house across the street from Casa de Amistad (that was owned by the hotel - I think they have since sold it as it's no longer on their website) which allowed us to also make use of the hotel's facilities. The people were extremely kind and helpful, the little pool (VERY little) was wonderful for our kids and the location was great (as long as you rent a car - which you should anyway). You are right up the street from a great bar that serves wonderful pina coladas on the outdoor deck. I have only positive memories and associations with this place and I can't wait to go back.
