OK, I'll start off by saying that I love the whole idea of this place. Its a family business,....the daughter is the talented chef, the father is an architect who saved the historic building that is now the restaurant Conuco. The fun, funky things that he did with the interior are bold and intriguing; and love the fact that he saved the original tile on the floor. The outdoor dining area is magical and adds so much to the whole experience of dining there. We have been supporters since they opened (we live here) and we tell people to go there, but I'm always disappointed with the service. I really hate to be negative, but you've got to do something! The food is wonderful and deserves to be treated with respect. The night we were there recently, there were only 2 other tables with customers. But the waiter and waitress stood in the doorway, talking and talking and talking. We had to wait for them to bring our menu and wine list AFTER they had seated us. It was like we had intruded on their conversation. We ordered a bottle of wine, they brought it to the table, served us and then put it in an ice bucket on the table. Then when it came time to order the food, I asked the waiter if about the whole fish and if it was local. He ROLLED his EYES. Please don't do that! I'm not giving you a test, I'm just asking a question that is my right as a customer. By the time the food came, the ice in the ice bucket had melted and water was overflowing on the table soaking everything. It was hard getting their attention as they were back into their fascinating conversation again. Then we asked for water. This took a while but it was fascinating to watch the procedure. Still talking to each other, the waitress filled 2 water glasses and put them on a tray on the bar. Then she walked around the bar and picked up the water glasses off the tray and brought them to the table. Next time, use the tray. It just makes for better serving style and if you have more than 2 people at a table , then you don't have to make more than 2 or 3 trips for the water glasses. (We saw this happen) And when you place the food on the table, can you try and place it in front of the person you're serving, not on the side of the table and then walk off. And do you think you can come back around and see if we need anything or if everything is OK? And can you try to be pleasant instead of sullen? As I said earlier, I enjoy the food very much at Conuco, but the service almost ruins it. And the prices are at a level that you kind of expect an enjoyable dining experience. I hope this helps. If it were my restaurant, I'd want to know.
