“Beautiful setting and staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

The Inn on the Blue Horizon (or the Blue) is in a wonderful location on the island. The Inn sits up on a cliff above the ocean and Coconut beach is a short walk down the cliff. The views at sunset were magnificent. We liked ending our evening with a drink at the bar. The food at the restaurant was too salty but had some interesting items. The staff are incredibly helpful and attentive. The rooms are nice but could use some touching up.

First the good. This is a beautiful hotel in a magnificent setting on the coast within walking distance to Esperanza. The staff could not be nicer and were cheerful, friendly, and eager to help, although, as it turned out, ineffectual. Our room was simply but nicely furnished, with a view of the ocean from our porch.

The problems.
The toilet kept running when flushed. We told the front desk about it after a couple of days. It never got fixed. By the end of the week the toilet was backing up and the adjacent room apparently flooded from their toilet backing up.
A light bulb in our room went out, and we told the front desk. Nothing was done about it.
There was only one key for 2 people--when we asked for a second key, we were told keys were always taken by guests, and they only had one for our room.
We had to keep asking for adequate soap and toilet paper.
At breakfast the same Taylor Swift playlist was playing 3 mornings in a row. We ordered eggs for breakfast, and they always arrived barely hot enough to eat, even though we were the only ones at breakfast at the time, and our table was not far from the kitchen. Also, it took a strangely long time to cook our breakfast, especially given that we were the only ones eating. Between Taylor Swift, the long wait for the food, and that it always arrived lukewarm, we stopped having breakfast at the hotel, and went elsewhere. Dinners were mediocre (seafood not fresh) and overpriced.
Beach chairs and umbrellas were offered. Chairs were uncomfortable and 2 out of 2 umbrellas that we took to the beach were broken. Also, even though the hotel did not seem full, when we asked for the beach equipment, the first response was "let me see if we have any left." It's not clear that there would be enough to go around, even if the equipment was in good working order.
Beautiful pool, but cushions on chairs seem to be left out at night and are covered with what seems to be black mold.

In summary, a hotel with enormous potential, but woefully overpriced given the level of maintenance, service, and attention to detail. It is as if no one is really managing the place.

My wife and I enjoyed our visit to the island of Vieques and the Inn of the Blue Horizon. Adam's suggestions were spot on. The beaches on the south side of the island are best. Our personal favorite was Secret Beach. Rented a Jeep, which was a must. The Inn is located just outside of the village of Esperanza. The restaurant at the Inn was fantastic. We liked the breakfasts and dinner. The sunrise / sunset roof view above the bar was perfect. Horses everywhere! The stars in the sky were unbelievable. This was a very peaceful inn. The pool was always clean and empty. Our room was Josifina, tucked away in the back from the ocean. A bit of a stretch to call this ocean front, but we could view the ocean, if truth be told. The town of Esperanza was lovely. Highly recommend Carambola at the Inn and in town at Bili and Orquideas for dinner and Belly Buttons for Lunch. Took a flight from Isla Grande via VAL and all went smoothly. Rented Jeep from Marita's. Made trip to north side of island and saw the old tree, couple of beaches, and the W, which was swanky but way too busy. I highly recommend the Inn of the Blue Horizon for couples who need some time to get away and unwind. I just wish we had more time to enjoy!

Room Tip: We booked an ocean front with Lanai and ended up with Josafina unit that was nestled behind some tre...

The Inn on the Blue Horizon - a hidden gem which glistens with genuine colour. The garden, the vegetation, the view of the sea, and the sound of the waves all replenish your body and soul with energy and refresh your senses. Privacy, friendliness, warm hospitality, and tactful attention are just a few of the perks this resort offers. The absence of TV sets in the rooms will help you rediscover the wonders of leisure (in all meanings of the word). If you need IT communication, the atrium, Blue moon bar, and Carambola restaurant provide wi-fi in a cosy atmosphere.
In addition, if you want to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or another special occasion, as we did, your palate will be pampered by the dishes in the Carambola restaurant, you will be waited on by smiling and caring Alison and Adam (both at Carambola and Blue Moon). No matter what, they are always there for you doing their best to make you feel special and at home.
Mayra and her staff work professionally, adding a pinch of their heart to everything they do for their guests.

Room Tip: room Esperanza is great!

We got married at the Inn on the Blue Horizon 1 year ago. I should have written this right away, but have never done a review before.

As we were celebrating our 1 year anniversary we were discussing the wonderful memories we have of the "Inn".

We did NOT want a typical ceremony, meal, and banquet room. We were going to Vieques to feel like we were in a tropical paradise. We were looking for something low-key and beautiful.

Mayra and the staff went above and beyond to make our wedding day PERFECT! It was like a dream come true!

The bridal suite was so cool! The beach bluff made the perfect spot for the ceremony. The patio deck was an incredible venue for our dinner. We ate under the stars looking out at the moonlit ocean. The food was wonderful! They had a basic menu for weddings, but made changes to accommodate exactly what we wanted. I have never been to a wedding with better food!

Mayra and I planned everything by e-mail. She helped to make sure every detail was just right, even helping with the photographer (Saul Pauda...AWESOME), the officiant (Franco Gonzales...great guy!), and a band that played during dinner and dancing. I mailed the decorations about a month ahead of time & everything else we worked out once we got there. She even baked the wedding cake herself and everyone agreed that they had never had a tastier cake.

Thank you so much to Mayra, Adam, and all of the rest of the staff for making our day more than we had hoped for!

We will be back again soon to celebrate another anniversary!

Room Tip: The bridal suite and rooms in separate cabanas are nice. Other rooms in the main building are not q...

I generally do not write reviews on trip advisor as I am usually in agreement with the feedback that other customers have written. However after reading the reviews listed both positive and negative I think the record should be set straight. 1) Grounds are nice 2) Pool is ok but doesn't really matter you are on an island with beaches 3) Bar staff is amazingly helpful and polite 4) Desk staff not so much 5) Food is decent 6) There are no towels for the pool or beach as they only have a few and they are 'dirty' and you cannot get additional towels for the room 7) Room cleanliness is terrible. Shower really does look outdoor as someone had stated. Closets are unusable as they are covered in old rusty metal organizers and items such as an iron are just strewn in with cords hanging everywhere. Odor coming from bathroom is very very unpleasant. Paint is peeling off of walls and there and brown streaks running down most of the walls from moisture over the years. Dirty curtains over windows, shower and below sink. Oh and if you move the curtain below the sink there is more dirt and glasses of old water collected from something leaking. Maybe it is just the room we are in (which they would not let us switch even as guests were leaving) but would prefer a beach shack for 1/4th the cost. Honestly blue horizon...I get that we are on a secluded island but a coat of fresh paint and a little elbow grease does wonders for your image and costs very little.

Room Tip: Staying in GARDEN is worse then camping as you are paying for it and you weren't planning on it.

This is such a beautiful piece of property and has so much potential but seems the structures have been ignored for quite some time and are falling apart! I was referred to this place when I made a reservation with their sister property in San Juan, the Bait and Switch I mean the Acacia Boutique Inn (I posted that experience on Trip Advisor Also).
I arrived here with my partner and was so delighted with what I saw, beautiful ocean in the distance, music playing etc. Check in was very smooth (so far so good) and then we went to our room. It bit on the small side for what we paid for but wasn't to concerned because the rooms is used very little on vacation. Thank goodness for that. Constant issues occured, but we werent to suprised as everything looked old and dirty in the rooms, from cracks in many places on the walls, ceiling and floor corners. First the AC wasn't working (which I must say got fixed rather quickly, but then happened again. So they were nice enough to change our rooms but what a pain after unpacking. Next room had the same decor good and bad. Still the same cracks, dirt rusty faucets etc. This room AC was working but very loud and the ceiling fan was broken which I told the desk 3 times and never got fixed.. I could go on and on but honestly I want to try to forget this last vacation from the San Juan property to this property. My advise is Vieques is a very small island and almost all of the places you can stay can acomodate an Ocean View (the view we had from our room was at least over 250 yards). For the price you pay here you can get much better accomodations somewhere else on the island, and its ashame because this property has so much potential.
.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else
