“Great spot overlooking the ocean”

Inn on the Blue Horizon

one of the few places on vieques that responds quickly to emails & phone calls. that's a huge +!
the inn itself is really beautiful, though it has an awkward set up. have to walk through the bar and thru their fine dining restaurant to enter the guest area. its kind of weird. the veranda is really lovely with comfortable sofas overlooking the pool and the horizon. the room was great, very high and comfortable bed. i loved that.
if you walk through the horse fence, there's a little path that takes you down to the beach. its a rocky beach, good for morning and evening walks. there are white chairs, on premise, near the bluff overlooking the ocean. totally relaxing with an awesome view.
i really liked the service we received at the blue horizon. reception went out of their way to help us track down a location of a cafe not on the tourist map. they're even mailing me some items i left behind as i type this review.

“Great space--needs some TLC!”

#1. Yolanda was wonderful however she was the exception rather than the rule. In general, I felt the staff did not go out of their way to be hospitable.

#2. The Inn is stylish and comfortable and peaceful, however it needs some TLC.

3. They do charge for breakfast.

4. The owners are located in San Juan and don't seem to care what happens to the property--maybe just a cash cow.

5. The food was delicious, however pricy.

“Stunning View”

Inn on the Blue Horizon

Sep 20, 2007

We spent 4 nights at Blue Horizon after staying 3 nights at Bravo Beach so our expectations were pretty high. The property is beautiful and well-maintained.
Pros:
beautiful setting
private, secluded villas
restaurant on-site
bar on-site
nice swimming pool (salt water)
view that can't be beat

Cons:
high price
no refrigerators in rooms
can only use AC when room is occupied
no TV (not that we missed it; we listened to our iPod)
high drink/food prices
lackluster restaurant (food was just OK, nothing special)

We couldn't figure out how the place could stay in business as there aren't that many rooms and there is plenty of staff. My guess is that's why we heard they are expanding. It is a stunning place and we stayed there based on a recommendation, but we may look for something a little less expensive on that side of the island next time we visit.

When we stayed there in 2002, we were convinced we had found heaven. Sadly, when we returned this year (2007), the ownership had changed and the whole vibe was different. It used to be a place to escape, to find solitude and quiet. Now, some knucklehead added a sports bar, and disco night. The new owner doesn't seem to appreciate what was so special about the place. We met other former Blue Horizon guests on the island who felt the same way. Several of them suggested Hacienda Tamarindo, which we'll try next time. We feel very sad about the loss of such a perfect place. It's still beautiful, but it's not magic anymore.

“A Slice of Heaven”

First of all, try to meet Yolanda (owner or manager??) who is the sweetest lady and will do whatever she can to help you out.

This place is a little slice of heaven that everyone should taste......but only a few folks at a time! The rooms are so charming and the pool is incredible!
We got a standard room, which was small but beautiful, in an island, old world-y way, but to say it was sufficient is an understatement. This is not a 5 star big corporation chain hotel, however, for us it is far superior in every way.
The food can get pricey, which was the tiniest blip for us since it was incredibly delicious and we were impressed beyond belief with every other aspect.
I suggest hiring a car so that you can get to blue / red / other beaches and Esperanza where there are a few more dining choices, both more economical and higher end than the Inn.

I was chomping at the bit to get the word out about this place, and since I only got back yesterday, you can rightly assume we loved everything about this place.
