“I could stay here forever”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

This would be my second trip to Vieques the last time was 8 years ago and we stayed at the Bravo Beach Hotel. This time we wanted to try the W.
I have to confess the service was excellent, it all starts the minute you land at the airport in Vieques ( we prefer to get to Vieques via Cape Air as it only takes 20 mins albeit it cost as much to fly for 20 mins from PR to Vieques compared to our 4 hour flight from JFK to San Juan, yikes )
The W Retreat & Spa has a lounge at the airport so you can wait in a room of comfort and luxury served with a selection of light refreshments whilst you wait for the van to come pick you up.
As I was a SPG gold member i got upgraded to a pool room. YAY!
The resort is large enough for you to find quiet places to chill and enjoy ( fi you want to avoid kids ) the weather and hotel amenities, which includes a SPA, 3 different pools ( the plunge pool is highly recommended, very private, heated and lit in the evening ), 2 beach locations, etc. This resort will whatever is humanly possible to help you enjoy your stay ( even getting me some dental floss...lol ).
The W alos has a car rental service, but it will cost more as you are paying for the convenience. the other 2 car rental service I would recommend is AVIS ( especially if you have a deal with them ) or the local and largest car rental in Vieques is Maritza's. All car rentals will come pick you up and return you to your hotel or airport.
Over all Vieques is an island that boasts some amazingly beautiful beaches that needs to be accessed by Jeep or SUV. But if you're just too lazy, you could just wile your days at the W without even leaving this resort, they have a restaurant and a cafe in the resort so you don't evne need to look for a restaurant, I know some folks here did...lol
I would recommend exploring the island and it's many beaches and restaurants which i will review shortly.
The prices are not the cheapest, but the W has some seasonal deals which will prove to be a bargain.

Room Tip: Our Pool room was 915 which gave us easy access to the Pool and Beach, but not too close to the pool...

We stayed in the resort 4 nights and it was disappointing. First I got sick before getting there and got a fever once we landed in the resort. (I def recommend to fly there instead of taking a ferry - is just 2 USD, but the locals board first and you can not reserve the seats, they have often a delay). Anyway I got fever and we asked for a tea maker - we got a tea room service for 17 USD! Just a tea - that was first shock. Also please do not take the room on the groundfloor, which are very dark, cold, without a nice view. The food in the resort is amazing - breakfast, lunch, dinner - everything is very tasty and nice prepared (also very fresh). We also have not been told about a complimentary coffee and tea in the morning - so just in case, the receptionist forget to tell you! You can save 17 USD service charge for a tea to your room :-) Also be careful about the information from concierge, they usually tell you the different taxi prices and trip recommendation. If you are looking for a nice spot for your wedding, the wedding they have organized while we were staying there - was just amazing and beautiful!
The hotel is very nice, it has 2 private beaches, 2 swimming pools and spa (very cool!).

Room Tip: We had room 611 - not very nice, avoid to take the rooms on the groundfloor

Stayed in W Vieques for four nights over Easter Break with my mother and young daughter. It was a last minute trip, and I have picked the W because I wanted to try boutique hotel on a somewhat still rustic island. While this hotel has some kinks that it must work out, overall I was impressed.
Arrival -- like most reviewers, I loved the W airport lounge. It right aways sets the expectations for the level of service you will receive at the property.
Hotel Layout -- I absolutely loved the design of this hotel. Its architecture blends with the island perfectly, gives it more "homy" feel, I loved its Living room with lounges, and colorful decorations. We were in the room with two queen beds, second floor with ocean/pool view. The room was huge! There were some impractical elements to it -- lighting was a bit spotty, no full length mirror, but overall it was a very spacious and well designed room that could have easily accommodated 4 adults.
Beach -- nice beach and pool. However, must go and explore the island. It has so many beautiful beaches, that even during the Easter weekend have tons of space.
Restaurant -- breakfast was fabulous, I really liked it. Can't say as much for the dinner Menu. There were lots of choices, but all three of our dishes were tasteless and not really worth the price that we paid for them.
Pool -- loved the pool. It was a busy Easter weekend, but it never felt too crowded. Poolside service was excellent and prompt. Even though I am more of a beach person, I enjoyed spending time at the pool because of its ambiance and service.

Overall impression -- I think this property is great and I really liked the design of it, since it blended in well with the rest of the island. I would definitely comeback.

Hotel is very nice looking and unique. When we arrived the rooms got mixed up and had to wait about 20 minutes before we could get in our room. The resort was very slow paced which was nice since we were there to relax. The staff was helpful when we asked for things. I really liked how they had separate beaches for adults and families. Only thing I could say negative about the resort was that the food was overpriced for what you get and the beaches really need to be groomed. Rent a Jeep and explore the island. Not far from the resort was an area called green beach. It was away from everything and a lot of fun getting to. We had the beach all to ourselves. Overall I really enjoyed the stay with my loved one.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the pool. More private

While we were on Vieques we spent some time at the W and some time at a private villa we rented (Quinta Jabali found on VRBO).

The W was nice and has plenty of modern luxury you would expect from a high end resort - but Vieques is a different type of Caribbean island and calls for a different kind of experience. If you're not the type to venture outside the resort to explore - the W Vieques is perfect for you (although super pricey). It's got an amazing pool, awesome panoramic views, comfortable and stylish decor and good food. However, exploring the island is what makes this place so unique and special. The beaches are secluded and unbelievable. The food around the island (especially in Esperanza) is cheap and delicious. And the bio bay is a sight to behold! When you get outside the W - it feels like there are more wild horses walking around then humans.

A private villa like Quinta Jabali is the way to go. About half the price with more space, more privacy and in most cases your own private pool - and the views can't be beat.

Second time to Vieques and W in last 18 months. Perfect place to relax. There is NO ACTION and there's not supposed to be. They have a lounge right at the airport, they drive you to the hotel that is 7 minutes away, they check you in smiling all the time, they drive you to your villa or suite then its pool time with great background music in (yes in) and out of the water. The place is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. Go out of the hotel for food and you have the perfect spot to chill for a few days.

Room Tip: Ask for a room around the pool as most have ocean views. The villas are where the suites are and are...
