“Pathetic”

Jajome Terrace

Tried to stay here... Arrived at 8:30 pm and gates were locked, no one to be seen. My boyfriend jumped the fence, went up to the hotel and still nothing. I called the listed phone number several times and just got a machine. Called Sarah's cell phone number (whom I got a confirmation # from when I made the reservation) several times, and got her voicemail. Pretty remote area of PR, not much around, but did manage to find a motel about 1/2 hr away that charged $25 for 6 hours, room was moldy, smelled like that deodorant that they put in men's urinals, and the walls were covered entirely with mirrors. An added bonus was the amateur porn that played on the TV. Catch my drift? Avoid Jajome unless you want to wind up here.

We recently spent two nights at the Jajome Terrace. Unfortunately, we were there Sunday and Monday nights, the two nights their restaurant is closed. The restaurant is really the focus of their operation and we were the only guests there at the time (they have 10 rooms), so we were kind of ignored. The place is beautiful, built on the beautifully landscaped side of a steep hill, with decks, terraces, a fountain, and a spectacular view all the way to the ocean.

The roads are narrow and winding, so driving at night was not an appealing option for us. The first night the owner offered to heat up our lunch leftovers that we brought back with us. The second night she went out and although we found her daughter, she did not have a key to the kitchen, so we had cold food. There are no phones in the room and our cell phones had no reception there, so we had no way to get in touch with anyone (there is no reception area and since we were the only ones staying there, there was no one who was available at all times).

All in all, though, we really enjoyed our stay. We spent the day driving the Ruta Panoramica through the mountainous central part of the island. It was beautiful and interesting and we drove through some small towns with very nice (but congested) plazas. We would recommend this place, with the proviso that you do not stay Sunday or Monday nights.

My major complaint was that there were no reading lights in the room and that they could not provide one when we asked. It is very quiet and peaceful there (no TV or radio), so it would have been nice to be able to read at night without straining our eyes.

Jajome Terrace is not for everybody. If you are looking for a casino or nightlife, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you would like to sleep in a peaceful spot in the mountains, wake up to misty mountain views, and have a spot to walk in the morngin undisturbed by vehicles, consider staying here. The rooms are spotless, but not all equally beautiful. Those on the upper floor have cross ventilation and beautiful balconies. Even given a price difference, stay on the upper floors. I look forward to my return stay and to enjoying the gracious hospitality.

My husband and I recently visited Cayey in Puerto Rico and found a guesthouse ( I think the only one in this area) that was a delight! Surrounded by mountains and greenery we felt in heaven. Very peaceful. Rooms are small but cozy, very neat and clean. No phones nor TV which I loved so we could really relax. They have some air conditioned rooms, but you don't really need them with the cool fresh air up there in the mountain. The restaurant served great food and the service by the owner, waiter and waitress at the restaurant were worth coming back. A place I would definetely visit again!!!!!
