“An unexpected delight at the Ponce Museum of Art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 29, 2012

Al Sur offers an outstanding dining experience! We expected a cafeteria and discovered an elegant cafe, with unique twists on local cuisine. Try the Al Sur rice dishes and the desserts.

“New Restaurant at the Art Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2012

The restaurant is located at the side entrance of the Art Museum. They are closed Mon & Tues. open for lunch and dinner but close early 6 PM on Sunday. Limited seating so I suggest you make reservations. The setting is beautiful as you look out the glass enclosed front into the courtyard. The backwall has a giant mural. The temperature in the restaurant is a bit chilly (we were told it was necessary to help preserve the mural. We shared an appetizer of tomato w/mozarella. For the main course my wife had the salmon w/honey glaze (really really good) which i tried. I had the dry aged strip loin. For dessert we shared the Apple Charlotte (save room for it). The menu is only in spanish however our waitress Genese translated everything for us. As a frequent visitor to Ponce we look forward to eating here again.

“A classy place for dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2011

This restaurant at the newly expanded Ponce Art Museum has a great menu of fish, pork, beef, etc. all served in 3 different ways: mostly a la parilla (grilled), guisado (a stew, or in a broth), and asado (roasted). Setting is spectacular, right off a beautiful courtyard.
My reservations: the striploin was served as a slab of meat on a white plate with no garnishes, neither parsley, nor small carrots, or veggies. A little off-putting. My mahi guisado with chorizo was excellent. If there is a big party in the room, the noise level can be overbearing and punishing. Perhaps they need some sound damping material in the room.
The room itself is sleek, modern, and adorned with a giant mural/canvas depicting life in Ponce. Very impressive.
