Made the trek to Tibes today -- this was on my list of 'must see' attractions in Puerto Rico and I was eager to see the ruins. We have seen several other sites, mostly in the Southwestern U.S., so I was eager to make a comparison and to experience that haunting feeling one gets at sacred places.
Our guide was helpful and gave us infromation, but it was clearly the end of his day (3:30) and he made it plain that he was waiting for us to leave. He did explain the site and encouraged us to take pictures.
I left feeling that there was much more I would have liked to have seen -- I would have liked some more time to wander around the stone enclosures to get a feel for the place.
I realize I may be imposing my middle class, western judgement on the site -- and I apologize for that.
By all means, go for yourself. Frankly, I think the site needs funding and support to make it a real showpiece for pre-taino settlement.
