“Solid hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

We stayed here for two nights in august 2013 and were very happy with the quality of the hotel. Our room was very beautiful, clean, and quite roomy. I was a bit disappointed at first that the room had no windows (and the lack of strong lighting made it impossible to really light up the room), but actually, we had absolutely no noise from the busy street this way, so this was probably a blessing in disguise! As other reviews mentioned, the hotel does not have its own parking, but we got to park right in front of the hotel doors on a "reserved for Hotel Belgica" spot, which we appreciated a lot.

What did bother me a little:
* the breakfast: it's very basic, just toast with peanut butter or nutella, some sugary sweets, coffee, juice and yoghurt.
* no elevator: no fun when you're travelling with a heavy suitcase that has to get up all those stairs...

we stayed here July 23,2013 for one night and absolutely loved it.
Great room, great architecture.
Granted, the balcony room was a bit noisy at night because there's quite some traffic and that badonkadonk from the cars hitting the gutter, but we were prepared and brought earplugs and everything was fine.
There's a taxi stand across the street and added fun was watching the cab drivers whistle after the occasional girl and a gay guy... at the corner to the square is a little "papas" stand, outrageously huge and delicious wraps, that made up for the skimpy "breakfast" of coffee and some mini donuts.

Unfortunately, our stay was not great. Pros, one block from town, continental breakfast, beautiful decorated rooms, Cons, no parking, right next to a dance club. Among other things, our room did not have any windows so the airflow was limited, particularly with 3 people in a room. We also found a cockroach in our room, which turned us off completely. We shorten our stay and moved on with our trip.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window, and away from street noise.

Love this place! Such throw back to the past, yet clean and cozy. Conveniently located in downtown Ponce, a block away from the main street, coffee shops, galleries and a legendary fire station. Excellent breakfast, kid friendly, parking right in front of the hotel.

We intended to tent-camp in the rainforest, but after a day of rain we made a bee-line for Ponce. Based on TA reviews, we chose the Belgica and absolutely loved it!! At around $100 it felt like a steal for a beautiful old mansion with Spanish architectural elements. It is located near the square of Ponce which is perfect for exploring all that Ponce has to offer. I also appreciated the complimentary tea, balcony, and the nice breakfast.

This was perhaps the best hotel I've ever stayed in.. Mind you, I didn't say it was the nicest hotel but certainly the best. From the moment you walk up on Hotel Belgica, this hotel is everything you would want to experience on a trip to Puerto Rico. The beautiful Spanish style architecture seems to have been beautifully maintained. Walking into the lobby there is no one with a name tag and a funny looking outfit typing your name into a computer. We walked in to a very kind clerk who knew my name before I even told them. We stayed in room 219, which is a balcony room on the 2nd floor facing the main drag through the city center. If you don't like the sounds of the city, this room isn't for you. But if you like beautiful street views with a sound of a quaint yet bustling city then this is for you. The room itself was a well-maintained as the exterior of the building and made me feel like I was in a place completely foreign to me. That's something you won't get staying at one of the resorts technically in Ponce but miles away from Ponce life. This was an easy walk to the city square where we enjoyed the lovely Cathedral, Parque de Bombas, the greatest ice cream in the world (King Cream), and even a clean and smoke-free casino down the street. If you're thinking of visiting Puerto Rico, do yourself a favor and stay in Ponce and certainly consider staying at Hotel Belgica.

The location of the hotel is perfect in the inner city. Most of the things to visit in Ponce is in walking distance. The rooms are really nice and clean. Staff is very freindly and helpful. There is also a little breakfast which is not that convincing but ok.
