“Pricey but good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

This place has great calamri. The rest of the food is good. Great to be on the beach. We didn't see sunset but still nice and out of the way. High price the only drawback.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Don't listen to the negative reviews. I dined with seven friends and we were all impressed. The food was exquisite and the portions were generous. I am on a limited budget but I would say the expense of the meal was well worth it and I would happily do it again. Sitting on the beach to dine made it even more remarkable.

“disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

They wouldn't seat us for dinner because they were supposedly fully booked (although there were people at 2 tables only). Then they agreed to serve us drinks. After we got seated, they refused to bring us a drinks menu. 5 minutes after we ordered mojitos, they brought us a bill and said that the table is now reserved, so we should pay for our drinks while they prepared them for us to go in plastic cups... Appalling!

“Go for the atmosphere.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

We enjoyed our beach-side dining at Pamela's, mostly because of the unique opportunity to eat directly on the beach, with the roaring surf behind us and starry sky (complete with floating lanterns!) overhead. That alone made for a memorable night.

Our food, however, was unremarkable, especially for the price. My own seafood entree was a bit tough, though others in our group found theirs to be cooked precisely to their liking. The best menu item we sampled, hands down, was the conch fritters served with a cilantro and lime aioli. These are large enough to chop into tiny pieces and share ... delicious!

The best entree at our table was the Grilled Churrasco with plum tomatoes -- definitely the star of the show, which seemed odd for a beach-side joint (where you'd expect the seafood to be the main attraction). The seared salmon came in a close second ... but it was served atop an inedible hockey puck of fried vegetable matter (potatoes? yucca? taro root?) that couldn't even be cracked open with a steak knife.

Pass on dessert; you will do much better elsewhere for a fraction of the price.

The kitchen is a bit slow, but the servers make up for this by being very attentive to drinks and refills. All in all, for a romantic dinner in a romantic setting -- where conversation and atmosphere are more important than the food on the plate -- Pamela's is a good choice.
