“Couples weekend”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Well...The room was cursed - the first morning the toilet would not stop running so the maintenance man had to come in to "fix" which took over an hour so we were stuck in the room waiting for him to finish so we could shower and get on with our day. The second day we were out in Old San Juan for the afternoon, upon our return the mirror located between the closets had fallen off the wall and broke into a million pieces all over the floor, bed and my clothes! They actually wanted to send housekeeping in to clean and I refused - no way was I getting glass fragments in any part of my body while on vacation! They did move us to another room BUT that was it - I felt there was more they could do for the inconvenience for 2 days is row! At least a few $12 drinks at the bar - yes, I said $12!!! And I am NOT cheap - they drinks were served in a basic glass, 8 oz size with nothing fancy about the garnish - for that much money - give me a dahm umbrella! LOL
Although we probably will never return to PR - the hotel in my opinion was just average and the surrounding area was below that. Very expensive weekend and not very good accommodations or eateries! sorry:(

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean front suite not room - they are more spacious and have a couch and chair

Super Renaissance property in Candado. Beautiful beach and convenient location. Fully-equipped 24-hour gym. Best part of the hotel is the friendly, helpful staff; best exemplified by Michael Tischler in the Concierge lounge. Michael's attention greatly enhanced our trip: he set us up on a great trip to Culebra, scheduled a massage for us on the beach, rented us a car at a great rate, and recommended great local dining establishments. Thanks Michael, and La Concha, for a great vacation! We'll be back!

After a tough event in St Thomas we needed somewhere to escape and the hotel absolutely worked. Room was great with fantastic beach view- modern and luxurious without being over the top. Pools are fabulous and the beach was perfect. You basically have the best of both worlds.

We had breakfast in the restaurant upstairs from the Reception. Service and food was fantastic. All the staff looked great and were very friendly and available when you needed them. No looking for someone to get a drink.

One evening we ate out and then came back to a Jazz Band and party- great atmosphere and definitely a place even the locals come too to hang out and be seen.

Good location with buses directly outside that go to the Old Town. We walked down to the Conrad and were so happy we choose here. Conrad was dead and is placed in a poor part of the beach.

We spent two separate nights here in transit. The rooms are comfortable. The restaurants and bars we tried are reasonably priced and the quality of the food and service is acceptable. The lobby seems always to be noisy - there is at night a DJ in the lobby bar. Fine if you like that sort of thing.
If this sounds like a luke warm review, I guess it is. La Concha is just like many large resort
hotels. If we were staying longer, for our tastes, something smaller and something with charm would be our choice.

We arrived at La Concha on Saturday around 430pm. There was no one in line at the front desk, so we were able to check in right away. The girl at the front desk was very professional and eager to check us in. She was most pleasant, as was everyone we made contact with at the hotel. Our room was very clean, cool and in a great location. I think it was room 352, overlooked the big clam shell and the ocean. Just beautiful!
We walked across the street to Angels for dinner, then walked down the street to Walgreens. La Concha has a great location, walking distance to many things and the beach on their property is very nice.
We used to stay at a different hotel in San Juan but I really think we will switch to staying at La Concha again because we were so pleased! The only downside is there is no free breakfast like some others offer, but there are some inexpensive options within a minute walk.

The only downside was that while visiting our friends in a suite room, someone from two floors above, poured water on us, drenching my husband with an unknown liquid. He was just furious.

After reading reviews about the night-club style noise, we called ahead and asked for a higher-floor room. We were pleased to get a free upgrade to a full ocean view, which was amazing to see and hear all week. The only downside was a very loud family with young children next door who had an adjoining door to our room hallway (and also thought that the TV on max volume was a good babysitter). Other than that, the room was great! Word to the wise - don't eat or drink at the hotel. The food across or down the street is much better, and not an outrageous price.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher-floor room to avoid lobby noise, and ask if any last-minute ocean view upgrades are...

I was here earlier this month at the recommendation of a friend. As someone who travels every week, I have more strict standards and expectations for service quality and housekeeping standards than the more casual traveler as I can see by some of the reviews of this property. Rooms in the la concha tower are nicer and newer than those in the older building. Older building rooms also have front doors that open outside - feels like a Motel rather than a luxury hotel in that sense. The lobby and lobby bar areas are nice. Check in process was ok but slow. I had a room in the new tower. Views of the ocean and beach are spectacular there - you are literally on the beach. But that's the best part of it. The room looks modern but when you look closely, there are definitely housekeeping problems as other reviewers have indicated: mildewed tiles in the shower; tile grout that's never seen bleach or strong cleaner in the shower; bathroom floor tiles that were not cleaned by mop ever since I was there; the desk surface had not been cleaned/wiped down; the carpet went unvacuumed at least two days; a small cockroach crawled out of the space above the refrigerator in the kitchenette!! And for me too, like other guests, the card on the door requesting Maid service went ignored for hours and I had to call twice for the maid to come - it's apparent the director of rooms or housekeeping need to be fired or retrained, along with the housekeeping staff! This should NOT happen in this class of hotel. Unacceptable. Towels were fluffy and absorbent. Bed was not that comfortable - it was obvious mattress already had grooves worn into it for where people sleep so that the middle of the mattress has a slight hump. The inconsistent Wifi was included in the very expensive 16% daily resort fee - so mine was over $40 a day for things I don't even use! Someone needs to fight these ridiculous fees. There was a large safe in the closet as well as an iron/board. Plenty of electrical outlets and good lighting. Flat panel TV mounted on the wall. Channel selection was ok but missing a lot of choices. No dialing directory was in the room to dial the right staff (concierge vs front desk etc) so u just have to dial zero each time. Room service food was inedible. Being there for work I didn't have time to go out for a meal that often so ordered in - how do you mess up basics like pizza? Well they did. Every dish was super salty as well. One meal by the pool in their cafe was very good, however. Bell staff was friendly and nice. Great with cabs - cabs are expensive there so beware. Not sure I would return here - had been considering the Ritz Carlton which I am now regretting not trying.

Saludos Ccgworldtraveler,

We apologize for not meeting your expectations. You are absolutely correct in your statement; this should not happen in this class of hotel. We are not going to just cross our hands and do nothing about this. All our management team has read your review and will work on the challenges presented to us. We have recently enhanced our product in the Ocean Tower and we will work to do the same in the Suite Tower. Our goal is to ensure that all of our rooms and services are 100%, and we are confident that we can make this happen, and soon. CCG, seeing the many travels you have experienced, your feedback is much appreciated. We do hope that the uncertainty of returning diminishes, and that you give us another opportunity to prove that we can do it better. Please contact me if that opportunity arises.

At your service,

Jose Cepero
