I booked a trip for my husband and I for our 2nd wedding anniversary. Having never been to Puerto Rico or knowing anyone who had stayed at this resort, I relied mostly on reviews from other travelers...and I'm so glad I did!! La Concha is an incredible place: from the greeters standing outside to give you the warmest welcome ever (Felix was the BEST!) to the extremely friendly front desk staff, my first impression of the resort was impeccable. We arrived at 12:30pm, and check-in time is listed at 4 so I fully expected to just hang out around the resort for a while. To my pleasant surprise, though, the room was ready and by 12:45 we were basking in all the beauty that our room held. I booked a one bedroom suite with a city view. It had a kitchenette with a fridge, stove, sink and utensils. There was a dining area, a living room area and 2 TVs as well. TONS of space, and VERY clean! There was even a DVD player in our room (which didn't work, but once we called down to the front desk, we had a maintenance man come to replace it within 10 minutes).
Most reviews recommended getting a beach view, but I actually happened to like the city view as it gave me a great screen shot of the area. Puerto Rico is a beautiful island, from the picturesque beaches to the bustling city life, so I didn't mind at all. The first few days we kind of wandered around the area, looking for things to do...and theres PLENTY! There are several local restaurants and bars, tons of shopping with Louis Vuitton and Gucci nearby, and just a great overall view of life in Puerto Rico. Theres also a casino right in the resort, so we did spend a little time (and lose a little money) in there as well :)
On the 2nd day of our stay, we came back from sightseeing to find a note under our door telling us the hotel was going to have to shut off power to all the guestrooms from 8am to 5pm the next day (our ANNIVERSARY) to perform some maintenance check required by the energy authority. Needless to say, that was the point where i said "I knew this place was too good to be true!" So that day, the power went out at 8am sharp, as promised. We had a tour scheduled during the day, and we got back to the resort around 2pm and the power was restored. I went to the front desk to see what they were doing about compensation for the inconvenience, and I was told that they hadn't come up with anything yet, the general manager would have to decide and they promised to call me on my cell phone with an update. Within 10 minutes, I got a call from Hector, the manager, who apologized repeatedly for the issue and advised me he would credit the last meal we charged to the room (our $50 breakfast buffet), which I was completely happy with. Their desire and dedication to make sure that we were satisfied did so much to restore my love for this resort. That night, for our anniversary we went to Perla, the restaurant in the seashell at the hotel. Fabulous experience! It had a very sexy ambiance, clean crisp linens and a beautiful view of the beach. But more important then all of that, it was the best food we had the entire time we were in Puerto Rico (my husband goes as far as saying the best he's EVER had!). Its a bit pricey (between $40-$60 a plate), but completely worth it!!
As far as the beaches and pools, this is the one area I wasn't really blown away. I love that everything is open 24 hours and I love that there is security on the beach for 24 hours. But the pools were rather small (during a busy time of year that may be annoying), and the beach was just ok. But we did have a really good time at both.
Overall- I would completely recommend this hotel to EVERYONE! My husband and I had such an AMAZING experience and we will be staying at La Concha every single time we come back to Puerto Rico!! They have surely gained a lifelong customer!
