Just got back from a 3 night stay at La Concha with my boyfriend. We absolutely loved this resort! Clean, beautiful, modern and just stunning to look at. The staff was incredibly nice and friendly, as were all the people we encountered in Puerto Rico during our stay (very friendly to tourists for the most part). This time of year, we were lucky to get a good deal on our Ocean View room (gorgeous) and were surprised when we moved to our second room (to save money) that our 'Resort View' room also overlooked the ocean! Not sure if this was because the hotel wasn't completely booked or we just got lucky and some of the rooms that are considered resort view actually face the ocean. The room itself was very nice, rainforest shower (& Aveda products :) was lovely, bed was VERY comfortable (and I'm like princess & the pea with bedding and pillows) and maid service was very thorough.
The pools were amazing! One main pool outside of the lobby with ample space (could get busier during peak seasons and weekends), balcony/infinity pool, 2 Jacuzzis (with nice privacy, good spot to go at night), and adults-only infinity pool on the other side of the resort (break taking view!). It was pretty easy to get chairs for the pool, towel service was impeccable, and if you wanted to lay out on the beach there were PLENTY of chairs and even some beach bed lounges where there was massage service.
We only ate food from the pool-side service, which was OK nothing special and overpriced (as to be expected). The drinks were delicious, Pina Colada was awesome! (again, the prices didn't surprise me as they were like NYC bar prices but taxes/fees add a few dollars to each drink) BUT the best thing was, for such a nice resort, they were completely laid back about guests bringing their own drinks and food poolside (if you brought beer bottles they asked you put it in plastic). The location is great because there's plenty of liquor/food marts within walking distance to stock up during your trip. Going out to eat we took the recommendation of the hotel for some walking distance spots (Ropa Vieja was pretty good!) and then found our own stuff in Old San Juan (Punta del Vista is amazing we went twice with 2 for 1 mojitos!).
It's about $15-17 to get to Old San Juan from the hotel but if you aren't on a time crunch take the bus that stops directly outside hotel for only 75 cents each way! Another great thing about the location is that the airport is very close (12-15 min. without traffic) and only about $15.
It was a little noisy while we were there, but this was during the election where Puerto Ricans drive up and down the main drag (Ashford Ave.) waving flags, playing REALLY loud music, and chanting for their politicians. It's interesting to watch but I could see some people not enjoying that if you're trying to relax, I'm sure its MUCH quieter when it's not a major election but if you're looking for absolute peace and quiet that is when this location can be a little of a downer. My boyfriend and I are young and live in NYC so it didn't faze us.
The crowd seemed like a mix of late 20's-40's couples, girls/guys trips (4-5 people in a group like a bachelor party we met), and a small amount of families. We were happy that we chose La Concha again here because it didn't have an overwhelming amount of families like the Marriott a few hotels down (our second choice when looking for hotels).
On the last day when we had to check out at 1PM and our flight wasn't until 5:30 the staff was very accommodating, allowed us to leave our luggage, hang out at the pool some more and use all the accommodations even after we were checked out was super convenient. Overall, we loved it and will definitely stay here next time we come to Puerto Rico - it was really hard to leave!!
Stayed one night in an 'Ocean View' and another night in a 'Resort View'. The Ocean...
