“The perfect spot to sweat your body off...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

Lets say that after walking all day in Old San Juan you wanna hang out in a spot were you can feel the good vibe of what puertorican nightlife is all about. Then guess what? the Nuyorican Cafe is the spot to be. If you wanna sweat your body off then this is the place to be. If you wanna dance some salsa, even if you dont know then go there. There's always good people that is gonna be available to dance with you and help you out. The vibe is always good and it represents what the puertorican culture is all about.

“Fun night out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

I would recommend this place over and over. I would even list it as 1 of the top 5 must experiences while in Old San Juan.
The place is located in one of the non obscure alleys in Old San Juan. The sign is really tiny, so it is easy to miss especially if you are walking by before the music starts.
The door guy is friendly, inviting and funny! Cover charge was under $5 each – should have been more because the bands were fabulous! We got there fairly early before the music had started. The place is pretty small but comfortable. If you are able to catch the place with some light, check out the murals on the walls. The drinks were good and average priced.
But the music and dancing - AHmazing! The 2 bands the night we were there were fusions of salsa, reggae, jazz, and Caribbean.
Music generally starts after 10pm, and they stay open for as long as the crowd wants to dance. They are located about 2-3 blocks from the Taxi stands, easy walk after a night of dancing and drinking.

“Live Salsa Band & Dancing”

And the friendliest crowd you'd ever wanna be around! Definitely going back.. Almost like a mini-show.. two live bands and dancers to get the night started and then everyone joins in!

“Dance the Night Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Took us awhile to find the entrance on a side street, but for most of you finding the place will be easy. We went on a Wed. night when the house band, El Comborican, played. This is a great group, and they rocked the place. Cover was about 5 bucks (might have been 10).

There are lots of amazing dancers, but don't let them intimidate you. Just shake that thing and have fun. I am a veteran of five carnavales in Rio de Janeiro and I just jumped around there ()pulando) and did fine. Only downer was the band took a break at about midnight (place opened at 11) and at 1 o'clock still had not returned. In the interval recorded music took over and the dancers did not stop.
