This is not El Convento, but neither is the price. This is the next best option in old town. 2 blocks from Cruise terminal. Rooms on street can be noisy and I agree about air conditioning; they did adjust it when asked. Breakfast is meager, but there is a great Puerto Rican "diner" around corner by Radio Shack which is GREAT! All the best restaurnats are 2-3 blocks up the street. There is a night watchman. Yes there is a bad view room (see Pictures)and a windowless room, but I would stay there again.
Had a massage with Bill Carr [" "]who they recommended; he will come to hotel or you can go to his place near El Convento. Hot rocks, reflexology, massage all in one for only $40. It was so great I gave him a huge tip.

We had one of the windowless suites. Concrete walls, sparse furnishings, tiny bathroom. Only good for sleeping - and that somewhat a problem because there is one locked thermostat for the whole floor (fortunately we figured out how to access and adjust it!) One advantage of a tomb-like atmosphere -- it was QUIET, and once we got the temperature right, slept very well. The lobby lounge was an okay option for reading without being claustrophobic.

Breakfast also not much -- fortunately the location of SJS is great, lots of places in neighborhood to eat, from a local bakeries to a better than usual Starbucks. Excellent lunch and dinner options as well. Front desk very helpful in suggesting restaurants, arranging transport etc.

Bottom line is that this would not be our choice when we return to SJ, but if you want or need to be downtown, it is acceptable and if we hadn't expected more (per some of the reviews below) might have been less disappointed. Note also, if you come by cab, it is not well known or marked; you need to have your address handy and eyes pealed.

If you don't mind staying in a windowless room, this place would it be for you. Two rooms on each floor have no windows - this hotel is sandwiched between buildings. The rooms that end in 1 (301, 401, etc) face the front of the street and have a large row of windows which they say can be noisy. The rooms in the back (I'm pretty sure they end in 04 and 05) face the back with an unpleasant view. The Queen deluxe room we stayed in was large and spacious and clean. Very comfortable. Good water pressure. Small small small fridge packed with snacks. Security guard at night. Breakfast in the morning is boxed cereal, milk, orange juice, bread, cheese, ham, there's a small grill for breakfast sandwiches, butter and no jam. Expensive for what you get but good location, right in San Juan near all the great restaurants/attractions.

I was very pleased with my stay at Sj suites. It is a very good hotel. Very clean and very secure. I went to San Juan for business, so it was a bit of a problem because they didn't have telephones in the rooms, but I managed and the staff was so nice that this problem didn't seem to matter. I recommend highly recommend this hotel, is very peaceful. It will be even better if it had a restaurant or bar inside, but they are young, so I guess plans are still in the making.
