“Loved the Coral Princess”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2009

We loved this charming hotel in the Condado Beach area.
In a residential area within a few blocks of shopping and the beach. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Very clean. Charming.

We had a flight cancelation last minute and this hotel would not let us adjust our stay at all. They were rude and we are still trying to get our money back for the night we missed due to flight delays. There are many other small hotels in San Juan. Don't stay here!! RUDE STAFF!!!

My husband and I stayed at the coral princess in Jan 31st-Feb 5th 2009. Upon arriving the staff was very friendly. The hotel was very clean. The garden is beautiful, the room was great. My husband and I didn't have any problems. We recieved fresh towels and great housekeeping everyday. Breakfast was good and we loved the hot tub on the roof. (We were in it every night). All in all the stay was great. I would recommend this hotel because it was clean and the staff was very friendly.

Firstly I have to disagree with the last reviewer's comments on the area - it was no more threatening than I expected . yes there was graffiti but you find that everywhere nowdays and dunkin donuts was the only place I experienced that you had to be buzzed into of all the shops in the Condado district. We walked around happily night and day and felt quite at ease - perhaps it depends on your definition of a nice area!!
The hotel is great, very good value when you look at alternatives like the Marriott. Breakfast was excellent and in a delightful courtyard. Not enough seats for everyone so it was a bit of a scramble to find somewhere to sit, however. The only complaint I would have would be about internal noise in the hotel. Our friends room was in a corridor which had people walking up and down most of the night and was noisy. We overlooked a seating area which was used by smokers late into the night. The swimming pool hours are advertised as from 8am but no one stopped kids larking about in it much before then.
Rooms are big enough - maybe small by US standards but on a par with UK hotel rooms and plenty of space for a few nights stay. Mini bar was useful and bathroom with jacuzzi bath very nice.
Overall its a friendly hotel, with some character, in a decent location, limited free parking and really helpful staff who are happy to recommend local restaurants etc. I would certainly stay there again.

  • Liked — It had some character unlike the high rise hotels in the area
  • Disliked — It could be noisy at times

After reading so many positive reviews I was honestly shocked to see the state of the hotel. To begin the hotel is in a very bad neighborhood. Think grafitti everywhere, and barbed wire fences/razor fences. To top it off even to go into the local Dunkin Donuts in the area you need to be buzzed in mid day. The area reminded me of a Grand Theft auto game.

Check in in the hotel was fine, as was the hotel management but from the moment of stepping into our room this was the kind of place where we checked every corner for roaches. While we didnt' find any the room was just run down. The shower/jacuzzi was dirty and rusted. The wall paper was peeling off. There were big cracks in the wall.

The one redeaming factor seems to be the breakfast area which was lovely.

Stay at the Marriott up the street. MUCH nicer.

Based on the preponderance of TA reviews, my wife and I booked this hotel for 4 nights in January, 2009. We were not disappointed. We were not expecting a huge, luxurious room for such a modest price. But the room was more than adequate. It was clean, modern, truly quiet, and the mini-bar fridge was useable to keep some restaurant leftovers fresh overnight. The jacuzzi was an added bonus. The breakfast was also more than adequate, served in a delightful garden setting. We were also not expecting an olympic-size swimming pool for the price and, again, it was more than adequate for a refreshing dip. They have 4 free parking spaces in the front. We got one for our first 2 nights, parked on the street for free the 3rd night and only had to pay the last night in a secure lot down the street. The front desk staff was very helpful in advising us of easy bus service to Old San Juan and recommending things to see and do. The Condado area can get truly noisy at night. I think the locals purchase their stereo boom boxes first and then the cars as the accessory. While the Coral Princess is only a block from the main drag and all its restaurants, stores, casinos, etc., it really is a quiet oasis and a relative bargain.

After getting hosed by the taxi system in San Juan it was refreshing to check into Corral Princess. The staff was super friendly and had plenty of tips on how to see the city and places to go that won't cost you a fortune. It is close to the sites. Tons of restaurants are 1 block over, yet we felt it was quiet enough that we had no idea we were in the midst of it. The staff recommended that we take the Riviera(I think) walk into Old San Juan. It took us about an hour, but was well worth the trip and we stopped many times for photos and to check things out. We took the bus back from OSJ right to our door. The room is small, but clean and hip. I liked the look and the air conditioner worked well. I'm really impressed with this place and would stay there again. If you are going to go to San Juan you should stay at the Corral Princess.

  • Liked — Great staff, I felt like I was talking with friends
  • Disliked — our room was small, but I think we asked for the cheapest one.
