Bed Bugs are not anyone’s fault, but as a hotel business, once a customer brings a bed bug issue to your attention, you should take it in and reflect on it as constructive criticism and improve the situation. Instead, my friends were ostracized for speaking the truth.
Yes there were definitely bed bugs on the 6th floor. [My friends brought this issue to the management, but decided that it wasn’t worth the hassle so they spent the last few nights of their vacations sleeping in the car]. I’ve noticed I got bitten in clusters on several areas on my body (if you need photos, I will gladly send them to you). Aside from bed bugs, there were a lot of little crawlers on the table top (in and around the microwave), not fully cleaned carpets. Several instances throughout our stay, I had to ask my boyfriend to kill these huge roaches that were crawling on our bed side. Like I said, bed bugs are not my fault, they are not the hotel’s fault either. However, I hope this flags as a warning and advice to improve the conditions by doing a full extermination on the whole hotel. I sincerely hope future travelers would not experience bed bugs in this hotel like we’ve had.
There was this “private room” on the 8th floor that had no signs or indications, and is apparently not opened to hotel guests. On the same floor, there was a gym, a sitting area, washing machine and dryer. We assume this whole floor was opened to hotel guests. We did not break in, nor were we aware that the door we tried to open was a private room. The manager who opened the door was really “a pain in the butt”, we already apologized for opening the door in a PUBLIC area, but he kept on persistently harassing us. This was not a memorable experience. To management: you should create signs so that hotel guests do not mistakenly think that that room is opened to the public. Secondly, whoever that manager was, needs to be retrained. You can’t treat your hotel guests with such hostility.
Aside from the bed bugs and poor management, this hotel is not that bad. It is a value hotel for a budget constraint traveler. Location—although far from popular attractions, it reflects on the money you spend on this hotel. Contrary, the nearby supermarket and bus stop was a great addition to my stay.
The sun deck was a nice spot to lounge around and chat. The gym was pretty small, but can’t complain because this is not a 5 star hotel. Wireless internet did not work; I established connection in my room, sun deck and gym, but had absolutely no service on my tablet, phone or iTouch.
Our maid on the 6th floor was very courteous. The front desk staffs were super nice and helpful. All that needs to improve is the cleanliness and upper management. While the bed bug issue and upper management was below standards; if Hotel Miramar acknowledges and improves on my above suggestions, I would say Hotel Miramar is excellent for the price. No need to be so defensive, just some suggestions to improve the quality of stay for future travelers.
