“A local favorite is always packed.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

Jose Enrique is named after its owner. Renowned Chef Jose Enrique knows his trade. Winner of the 10 best chefs in the US by Food and Wine in 2013 amongst other distinguished recognitions. Young and non chalant, his mastery for flavor will mark your senses.

Be prepared for a long waiting list to be seated as reservations are not accepted. Buzzing with young professionals and beautiful people, this restaurant is the place to visit if you want fun on your menu. Have fun and be sure to order dessert.

“Do not be fooled by the appearance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

I stayed at San Juan for a couple of nights and decided to try Jose Enrique based on the tripAdvisor reviews. Let say it was excellent, from the appetizers to the dessert ! We were 5 and everybody was happy with their choice. I would definitely recommend this place.

“Lately a little inconsistent, but still Good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

I have been going to Jose E for many years. I have always found the mix of flavors second to none. However, lately the Carne Guisada, a house favorite was mediocre, the no listas de manchego also less than excellent, as usual. However, the drinks are always excellent and the bartenders Super. The wait is always a turnoff and the fact that they don't pick up the phone does not help either. Still a good experience, hope it does not fall off as other restaurants.

“Gourmet Puerto Rican cuisine at its maximum; owner needs to take civil manners classes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013 via mobile

The ambiance at José Enrique is excellent. Lots of locals. Fair amount of tourists. Have been to the restaurant couple of times and food is always great. Service is great except when seriously full. Avoid Friday evenings. Everything in the menu is delicious. The cangrejo appetizer is a must as well as the colirrubia main dish. For meat lovers, the carne humada and the rib-eye. Only fault of the restaurant is that owner and chef has no people's skills-he tries to be nice but this does not come natural to his self-centered nature. I think he should just stay in the kitchen. He doesn't take well any constructive critic about service or problems with orders. Owner goes into a rampage instead of apologizing and many people have been kicked out and banned from the place. I think the attitude is 'This is my place, I can be a jerk, you don't like it, don't come back.' Food so great that one needs to come back regardless… unless you're kicked out. ;-) luckily owner is not there all the time as he has other restaurants…
