“NOT a Holiday Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2012

Milano is a boutique hotel in the heart of Old San Juan. Walking distance to the Cruise ships and El Morro, the Spanish fort that guards the entrance to the harbour. The hotel and staff is small. They are efficient and helpful. There are not a lot of amenities, but they have a passable attempt at a continental breakfast on the top floor. It's NOT fancy and not up to the standards of a typical American chain. It's very old, but kept up nice. The rooms are small, but my bed was good and it was very clean. There are no bugs. The BEST THING is the LOCATION! It is literally in the heart of the historical district of San Juan. Many museums, the fort, plaza, ancient government buildings and an awesome waterfront with parks and fountains. Several of the best restaurants in San Juan are just a few blocks from this hotel.

Room Tip: I was traveling for work and needed rest. So I got the least expensive room which is an interior roo...

My husband stayed here the night before our cruise left San Juan. We wanted to stay in Old San Juan and not pay a ton of money for a room. We had an interior room which wasn't huge (and obviously, no window), but it was quiet and (most importantly) clean. There was a continental breakfast in the morning which was okay, but not great, for $5 each. The breakfast was on the roof of the hotel however, and the atmosphere eating breakfast was great. We mostly paid for the location- we walked a block to a great restaurant for dinner and to both of the forts (although neither of us mind walking any sort of distance). In the morning we did some sightseeing after we checked out and were able to leave our bags there. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We did have to take a taxi to the ship in the morning however (I think it was a $20 ride). In the future, I would return to stay here again.

We stayed at Hotel Milano the night before our cruise and the night after. The staff is friendly and helpful. We met a lot of other cruisers at the hotel doing the same thing.
The first night we had “Standard” rooms and they were clean and neat but had no view at all. The windows were very small, about 1 foot square, and located high on the wall (about 7 feet up) only letting the sunlight in.
The second night we had “Superior” rooms (a bit more $$) and they had large opening windows overlooking Fortaleza St. As some reviewers have noted the rooms away from the front are quieter. We were there on a Friday and a Saturday night and Fortaleza St. gets active but we enjoyed the sounds of Old San Juan. We would choose the superior rooms again.
In the morning you can go up to the roof and have a buffet breakfast ($10.00 pp) sitting either inside or outside. We chose to sit outside and it is extremely pleasant to start the morning this way.
Old San Juan is a wonderful city that is pleasant to walk and Hotel Milano is a great spot to explore it from. Step out the front door and you can head up the hill toward el Morro or down the street toward the harbor. There are many shops and cafes to explore as you go.

Was so very lucky to have found this lovely, family owned hotel, in the heart of Old San Juan.
Hotel Milano was a great find for us, affordable, clean, safe and within walking distance to all the sights and great places to eat. Our room was clean, cumfy and had all the amenties we needed, a/c, TV, telephone and full bath. Our budget was pretty small so our room was one without a view, but no worries, its actually just what we wanted, as we hadnt had much sleep prior to arrival. The top floor of hotel is a lovely terrace, with splendid breezes, and view of the harbor and town, where we ate our breakfast and sipped coffee. The owner and all the staff were more than kind and helpful in answering ALL our annoying questions with a smile. Their suggestion for dinner that night at Cafe Puerto Rico, was the best, as we enjoyed this lovely Cafe's authentic puerto rician food, and breezy outdoor dining. Look forward to staying again.

We could step out into the street and find wonderful restaurants right in that very block - the likes of Tantra, Dragonfly, Parrot Club. Rooms were clean, the staff friendly. In the simple rooms we found the most remarkable funky furniture - loved it. One in our party had done considerable research before selecting this place, and it paid off.

It is always nice to come a day early when going on a cruise and Hotel Milano is an excellent choice. It is located in the heart of Old San Juan, within walking distance of several restaurants and a block from the bus stop. We have stayed here a couple times and each time were pleased with the clean, quiet room.

First I have to say that Juan and his staff have the patience of saints. I constantly emailed, called and bugged them for information, prices, and anything else that came to mind for over a year before our trip. Every single time they answered my emails with professionalism and friendliness. Gold stars for all of you! I know we drove them nuts with our in and out routine and always having to take care of our key. Like I said ....patience and professionalism.

We had a great time. Our rooms were just the right size (Front Double, 409 and 406) with windows that opened to the street. We had no problem with noise even though we stayed on Friday and Saturday. Whenever we needed ideas of where to eat, sight-see, or just wanted to talk about San Juan in general, the staff gave us their undivided attention.

Breakfast was wonderful and just enough. Even my husband had no complaints and he is a big eater. The only disappointment was that it was raining quite hard and we could not eat on the terrace. It was still beautiful and fun.

We will return again the next time we are in San Juan, hopefully soon.

Thanks to you all at the Milano for making our stay a great one!

Rucinski/Marden-Anderson

Room Tip: We liked the front double as we wanted to share a room. Light, sunny even in the rain. Very clean...
