My partner and I made reservations for several days at this so-called "Bed and Breakfast"...and we were shocked to see this place. It is more like a "pension" where rooms are rented by the hour! We saw some pictures (obviously several years old) and we thought the place couldn't be bad........but we were soooo wrong. When we got into our room, we immediately started calling around other B&B's in the area for availability and luckly we found a room for the next day (and for the rest of our stay) at Tres Palmas in Ocean Park (very nice place). However, we had to stay for one night and it was depressive!

After making sure we had reservation at Tres Palmas, we called the front desk to cancel our stay, the lady at the front desk, asked us what was wrong with their place......obvioulsy they don't think the place is that bad!!!! They failed to see that when people are on vacation, and pay pretty good money for a room, they deserve a "nice and clean" place to stay and most importanly a nice place TO REST!. We got a dirty room, where we could see hair on the bathroom floor, the windows could not open, the smell was awful, the bed sheets were so thin that you could see the matress, the front gate didn't lock (so anyone could come in from the street) the noise level was unbelieveable, specially when the garbage truck drove by at 5 AM and construction started next door at 6 AM.....oh boy, it was pure hell!. Here is the trick though.......they required a 48 hour cancelation notice-it is their policy-so when you decide to cancel the rest of your stay, they don't care because they still get paid at least for two nights. I thought it was a scam, but it works for them. We complained to the owner, a French guy, when we checked out the next day and he was rude and unapologetic. So we decided to put it behind us, paid the price for our mistake and we ran as fast as we could from this place....it was the best thing to do to start enjoying our vacation in Puerto Rico.

The Embassy Guest House is a truly awful place. Condado is a convenient location, close to Old San Juan, but spend a little more on your lodging and enjoy your vacation more. We stayed at the Embassy Guest House in December, 2003. Thank goodness that we only stayed two nights.
There is a reason that their web site only shows a picture of their pool. The first room that they gave us had a window air conditioner that made a loud "Vroom, Vroom" noise like a diesel truck that I am sure would have precluded sleep, and large, heavy mirrored closet doors that were off their tracks, making the closet pretty much unusable. The room smelled musty. After complaining, we were switched to a room that had a quiet window air conditioner, at least, but that room was cramped and had no mini-fridge as advertised on their web site. As to the other features touted on their website, their rooms do in fact have the advertised in-room coffee makers, but no coffee, sugar, or creamer is furnished. When you ask for some, you are told that you can buy it at the drugstore down the street! And as to the pool and jacuzzi, they are not open in the evening when you might want to use them (they close at 5 or 6 p.m.). They are closed at night because of "some things that happened there", we were told. Also, if you have a rental car that you need to park anywhere near the Embassy Guest House - good luck. There is no parking available except for on-street parking that is always full. There is supposedly a breakfast available to guest at the near-by Atlantic Beach Hotel, but we were not able to sample it. It is not available on Wednesday ("the girl who prepares it is off on Wednesday") and on the days that it is served, it is not served until 8:00 a.m.

This place almost ruined our vacation. It was dirty and smelled so awful we bought deordrizers, a glade candle and Lysol. The water pressure in the shower didn't work, the water would cut off as soon as you were ready to rinse off. The staff is not helpful, we checked out early and stayed at El Portal (decent) and the Radisson Ambassador (Fabulous, if your in a suite). I would RUN from the Embassy Guest House as it will more than likely ruin your vacation!
