“Great Overnight Pre-cruise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

My confidence in this booking wavered before leaving home, but our worries were for nothing - we really liked this hotel. Very quaint; much more authentic feeling than some generic chain hotel. We had an economy room on the ground floor opening into the courtyard/pool area. One queen and bathroom with shower only, excellent A/C and the world's highest velocity ceiling fan (great for white noise if you need that). It wasn't exactly posh, but meticulously clean and adequate for our needs. The staff were friendly (shout out to Calvin) and efficiently took care of the few needs we had. The pool offered much needed relief from the late evening heat. No food service on-site but coffee was available in the lobby and free wifi operated reliably from the common areas. (NOTE: photos and descriptions of Windchimes on their website and other booking engines are very accurate.)

Our take on some comments we had read in previous reviews: Convenient location? $15 cab ride from the airport. We arrived after dark and the entrance was not well-lit nor were the main doors open. This aspect could use some improvement. Noisy? Yes, knd of. Traffic on the street and other guests coming and going could definitely be heard in the room but this didn't disturb us at all. Safe? It must have been - as first time visitors to San Juan, we got fairly badly lost looking for a drugstore and wandered for blocks and blocks along streets and alleys after dark without any sense of threat at all (also happened upon a very popular nightclub where we had a fantastic meal - serendipity!!).

Overall, we loved this hotel and would definitely recommend it to anyone who appreciates simplicity and charm.

Room Tip: No elevators. Take a ground-floor room if you pack heavy like we did (pre-cruise).

My sister and myself stayed for two nights, which wasn't long enough, but the Calvin and all the staff were excellent and very helpful. Our room was very spacious and very clean. A/c worked great and the TV had all the channels that we normally watch. We got information from Calvin at the front desk about the bus ($.75) to Old San Juan and also once in Old San Juan they offer a trolley that is free to ride to see the castles, all the shops, and the town. It was great. We left at 8:30 AM and returned at 9:00 PM. Next time we are going to the Rain Forest and the Waterfalls. Just did'nt have enough time. We will stay at the Wind Chimes on our next trip. Just wanted to thank to Staff and Calvin for their "EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!"

TOTALLY NOT What I expected! I have NO reservations about staying here! Its CLEAN! The staff is AWESOME, VERY VERY helpful, if you want to go swimming at 1am outside in the warm pool, GO for it! They will tell you, "You're on vacation, do what you want" The beds are decent and CLEAN, nice tile floors, as you'd expect in a "boutique". FULL cable TV, Bar (a bit spendy) No restaurant, but there are some with in walking distance. (10 min max) its a safe neighborhood, but it reminds me of being on the strip, its a bit loud from the traffic at night.. BUT, that would NOT stop me from recommending it to ANYONE! The pool is nice, wifi in the office / lobby area, everyone in the office speaks VERY good english and spanish. If you don't want to chance getting into an accident driving in Puerto Rico (trust me, you'll see what I mean) take a cab, its less than $20 and probably save you a lot in stress level and high blood pressure. TAKE A CAB! STAY HERE with NO REGRETS! We're going back with in 6 mos and THIS IS WHERE WE WILL STAY! OH! To get into the hotel, you'll see a BIG wooden door, you'll see what looks like a the part of a doorbell in your house, on the bottom right of the rectangular box on the wall is a button, push it, they'll check the security cams and let you in, you'll hear the door click, just pull on it.. (It really is a safe neighborhood, they just want to make it even safer)

My friend & I booked a room here for 1 night ($85/queen bed) and immediately developed a great rapport with Calvin, the guy @ the front desk. He was so good to us. When we needed a recommendation for dinner, he escorted us to a local restaurant since certain streets in that area can become sketchy @ night. He also hooked us up with a tour guide/group for El Yunque rainforest in the morning. When our accomodations for the following night fell through (elsewhere), he made arrangements for us to stay @ At Windchimes another night, in a larger room, for the same price that we paid the night before!
The Inn itself is spotless, charming, and the bar in the back is cool & laid back. It's nice that they provide free coffee for guests in the lobby each morning.
The area where it's located is...alright, not the best. The beaches in Ocean Park are awesome though.

Stayed here for our 20th anniversary, checkin went just fine. place was old, small rooms. Small bathroom area, old showers, noisy air conditioner with one speed only. patio furniture is all plastic chairs, not to clean. Worst part was going home itching all over, was not until we got home we noticed all the BED BUG bites. contacted managment, what a joke. Chad the so called (part owner) never called me back , now he just ignores my emails. I wil be posting pics of bites. He had his nerve to say that it wasnt bed bugs, but never gave me his opinion on what it could have been. stay away from room 126. Stay away from there restuarant "Nichie" or whatever its called. Over priced for the food and drinks were a rip-off. I would rather stay at a Motel 6 , look out for the 2 inch coakroaches in room as well. Be warned my friends.

We would like to take the time to thank you for writing a review. I am aware of your situation as you and I have traded many emails over the past months. "Bed Bugs" as you say is an epidemic and can close a business down. Our hotekl is inspected quarterly and if anything out of the ordinary is ever brought to out attention then we address the situation immidiatly. The room you stayed in as mention in your review, 126 as well as the entire hotel doesn't have "bed bugs", or any type of other insects in the roomns except for an occasional insect that is part of being in a tropical island. The room you stayed in has been occupied for mnths before your arrival and since and there has been no other instances brought to our attention After meeting with the professional exterminators who treat and inspect our properties regularly, I stated in a direct email to you that the conclusion he came up with was Sea Lice which can be occasionally brought in by wet cloths from the beach which you happened to tell me you were at earlier in your vacation onthe other side of the island. We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your last evening in PR and of your anniversary but maybe sometime in the future you will bless us with your presence.
Thank you kindly & Take Care!

I was a little nervous about staying here at first after reading some of the reviews on this site.We called and double checked to make sure we were on the books for that date so that there would be no confusions about our reservations. The staff was very friendly, it was perfect! The room was small but really what more did you need we had a flat screen tv, air conditioning and fan that worked. Close to the pool. We did not spend too much time in the hotel room most of our trip was spent at the pool and the beach which was about a block from the hotel. They had a bar (which I do not really recomend) I thought it was a little over priced but the bartender was friendly. Overall I think that this place has wonderful personality, a warm feel. We will definitely come back to the Wind Chimes on our next trip

claudio (front desk) and elina (bar tender) gave the greatest service. they help us with know the surrounding restaurants and funs things to do. i had the best mojita with elina.
pros in our stay. kassalta ( a bakery) and bebos (puerto rican) restaurants where walking distant. both restaurant serve deliceous food. be warn bebos service are not that great. if one wants the asap to go is better than dinning in. 1 block away from the beach. great housekeeping. the pool was small but we enjoyed it.
cons; we did not have tv service. parking should be reserve way ahead of time for $12.00/nite. or street parking if you can find one. a rented car is the convienient choice for transportation, if one does not like to wait for the irratic shedule of the bus. taxi can be costly after a time. or just expect to walk far.

Room Tip: we were at room 126. we where isolated (we like it that way) but if crowds will overflow from the ba...
