My partner (a travel agent) and I stayed at L'Habitation when Marie first started running it. They opened in Jan 2000 and we stayed there the first time in March 2000. We have spent every year but one there (that yr we went to Grand Bahama-YUCK). The place is comfortable with the basics that any traveler would need-a place to sleep and bathe. Really on vacation how much time do you really spend in your room. The beach is just a short walk out of your room. Chairs are always available and the bar is open 7 days a week for those hot lazy days on vacation. The staff is always there during the day to make your stay a pleasure. Marie is around at different times of the day and is willing to go the extra mile to make sure you are happy.
The rooms are clean. Yes they do have metal shutters on the windows but if you look around the island so do a lot of private house. It add to the charm of the place. Nothing like sleeping with the shutters open and hearing the ocean at night to make you sleep soundly and to get rid of the stress of the "real world".
If you are expecting a large chain hotel with all the high price trappings the L'Habitation is not for you. But if you want a friendly ( gay-friendly) place where old fashion customer service is always in style you need to give the place a try. I am sure you will have a good time.
