My family stayed in this hotel Aug 16-19 pre-cruise and Aug 26-28 post-cruise. We wanted a clean hotel in a safe and convenient, and Radisson Ambassador Plaza met our expectation. If you're looking for a hotel with a fancy lobby and lots of services, you may be disappointed.
Just one block east, there is a Burger King, a taco place, a Subway and a Walgreens. The beach is one block north, but the beach near Marriot (about 3 blocks west) is better. Head west and you'll get to the busier part of Condado where you can find many restaurants (including the popular Casa Lola) and shops. Hertz car rental is right next door and Charlie's car rental is a few short blocks away in front of the Marriot.
Our rooms were clean and quite spacious with a balcony. A problem we had was that the first room's safe was broken. The hotel reception staff were polite and professional, but at times, there is a line of people waiting to check in or out. There is a tour operator in the lobby but the tours were quite over-priced. This hotel has a big casino, but we did not gamble. The pool, fitness room and the business center is at the penthouse of the hotel. This is also where the breakfast is served.
Since there were 4 of us, we found paying an extra $20+ per night for the Ambassador Club room to be well worth it. It comes with free breakfast until 9:30 am, use of the Ambassador Club room which has free coffee as well as an honor bar. In the evening, there is free hor d'hourves. Breakfast was so-so but we liked the convenience. There were cereal, pastries, muffins, waffles, fruits and something hot (oatmeal or cream of wheat or ...). No eggs nor meat nor hash brown. For hor d'horves, there were 2 or 3 kinds of sandwiches, veggies, cheese and crackers, and something hot (tater tots or fried whatever). If the line in the lobby is long, Ambassador Club customers can check in at the Ambassador Club in the penthouse. During check in, we were given vouchers for 2 free drinks in the bar, vouchers for the casino, etc.
After the cruise, we tried to check in early but the room was not available until 3 pm. On check out day, we requested late check out and had no problems checking out at 2 pm instead of noon.
For people interested in snorkeling, I recommend walking about a mile west along Ashford Ave to the beach next to the bridge and the Conrad Hotel. There were quite a lot of fish there, especially if you swim out to the artificial reefs. We saw a wide variety of colorful fish, including a lion fish. You can rent a chair and umbrella there for $5. That beach has shower facilities.
The bus stops are about 2 blocks either east or west of the hotel. Taxi costs around $16 each way. The bus costs 75 cents per person each way. Seniors pay 35 cents. There is a bus every 20 mins.
