“Nice stay at Radisson”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2011

The hotel is ok, not outstanding, not bad - very reasonably priced. A very good place to stay for business - I would probably not stay there for a beach vacation because it's a very long block to walk to the beach. I've stayed here 3 or 4 times in 2011 so far, always for business.

The rooms are fine, fairly modern, and they keep them clean. The casino is small, usually with only a few tables open. Not much happening at the lobby bar when I stopped by for a drink on a weeknight.

The best part of this hotel is the location for nightlife. It's near many good local restaurants & bars that are within walking distance.

Stay here if you are looking for a good/inexpensive business hotel in Condado near lots of nightlife.

Room Tip: See if they will upgrade you to the Ambassador's Club on the 7th floor.

I was fearful after reading the reviews prior to our 2 night pre-cruise stay on August 12 - 14. Apparently a lot of people have never been away from their cocoon of a town in the 50 states.

I've stayed at the Ritz and I've stayed in Old San Juan but this was my first and definitely not my last stay in Condado. The neighborhood is fabulous. Turn left as you leave the Radisson and you will be in a more local Puerto Rican area. Turn right and you will be in the area catering to tourists.

Our room was immaculate, large and fresh. My bed was comfortable. We had a regular king room on the ambassador club level. The views up here were great. We could see the city, the mountains and the sea. No, it's not beach front but it's only 1 block to a public beach where you can bring your own towel to sit. Or you can turn right and walk 3 or 4 blocks just past the Marriott, turn right, and go a block to the beach and rent a lounge chair for $3.

How can anyone judge a hotel on the clients who are staying there any given night? That's ridiculous. Our first night found a lively, variable aged group of American's and Puerto Ricans enjoying live music in the lounge. There was a lot of drinking, dancing and having a good time. The next night was much quieter but there was still live music.

We walked through the casino even though we don't gamble. It was a lot larger and more sprawling than I expected with rooms flowing into other rooms. There was something for everyone.

We were given early check in just past noon with no problem by Luis at the front desk who was very polite. He was professional and I enjoyed giving him a wave each time we passed by his desk. Yes, he smiled back.

The rooftop pool was clean and perfect. We went in the water and enjoyed visiting with other guests who told us how much they liked their stay here, too.

Luis gave us some great dining suggestions. We ate at one place twice because the food was great and also a really good value. You'll find 2 walgreens and 2 starbucks within easy walking distance - one in each direction. Yes, you will see a few homeless people. Very few. Very harmless. And WAY less than you will ever see in the greatest city in the USA - San Diego, CA. We gave one man a pie we bought from a charity and he was so polite he thanked us and immediately ate it. You will see homeless people in every city in the USA. But you won't see streets this clean in most of them. This is a country of character. Be open minded about your travels.

Our breakfast in the ambassador's club was very nice and had everything we wanted. Some people even enjoyed waffles, out of the toaster, but still it's offered. The bar in the evening was an honor bar. You make your own and fill out your own ticket. It was well stocked.

Our bathroom was small but very functional with great counterspace. The lighting in the bathroom and in the bedroom was better than any hotel I've been in. Ladies should like this. The coffee maker actually had it's own little counter space outside of the bathroom. Many hotels these days are putting it right in the bathroom which to me isn't the most sanitary of places to keep your coffee and cups. This hotel does it right.

Every room has a balcony so even if you don't want to pay extra for a high floor with a better view, you can at least step out to see what's going on around you.

We had a sweet and cheerful housekeeper who gave us extra caffeinated coffee for the asking since they normally only leave one single serving of each type in the room. We don't drink decaf.

Our AC was good and cold. There are loads of electrical outlets in the room which made it easy to charge up all our electronics at once. The wifi worked perfectly on all our devices, (iphones, ipad and netbook) and faster than most hotels. We liked having a safe which still some hotels are lacking. They even gave us each a free bar drink and bottled water daily which may just be because we were on the club floor.

You can rent a car from hertz right next door. If you aren't daring enough for authentic Puerto Rican food, you'll find Burger King, Subway and Fuddruckers all either right next door or within a couple of blocks.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. I've never stayed at a Radisson before but after this experience, I'd happily book another one.

You really should disregard all of the unfounded complaints you've read previously. I'm really picky and a neat freak and the Radisson met my unusually high standards. We've been out of the states plenty and appreciate the cultures of others and Puerto Rico is definitely not an extreme or frightening culture.

Again, this is a GREAT location.

Bottom line: The hotel isn't terrible, but only stay here if you have a specific reason to... location, price, you love the beach nearby, etc.

This hotel is at the tail end of Condado (East side). I'll let you decide if the location is convenient or not... it depends what you want to do in Puerto Rico.

The property is dated and in need of some refreshing.
There is parking on-site for $12.84/night with unlimited in/out. It was sometimes tough to find a parking spot.
The beach is a bit of a hike.
There are few decent places to eat in the area.

Pros:
-- I paid $75 + tax per night through priceline
-- No resort fee
-- Parking (for fee) on site
-- Free drink coupons on check-in
-- Breakfast was reasonably priced

Cons:
-- Bed isn't comfortable
-- Rooms are not insulated. You hear everything going on outside.
-- Housekeeping is dodgy. They don't vacuum and often forget to replace coffee, cups, etc.
-- Old property that needs refreshing.
-- Restaurant quality was lacking

I booked a one bedroom suite at the raddisson. When my family and I arrived on the date for our room which was paid for in full. They said due to hotel policy they could not accommodate us.I have five children under 12,and pregnant with my sixth and was refused service because hotel policy is no more than 4 person to a room. The manager was very rude, and had no manners. He was loud and aggressive.I thank God for Coral by the Sea.Our money was refunded from the Raddison with a waived cancellation fee.It was for the best because we had more money for shopping.I stood in the lobby for about three hours hoping for the best,or the manager will take into consideration the children. My two youngest is 5 ,and 2.We stayed at Coral by the Sea with two queen size beds and a folded bed was adder to the room.Hotel policy sucks.

The hotel is located in a neighborhood with a mix of hotels and apartments. There is some graffiti, but overall, it was a pretty safe location, with many tourists, and very few homeless people.

We booked a standard room, which was liveable for a week, but there was a noticeable amount of dust on the lamps and other furniture.

There was no toothbrushes or toothpaste. We called housecleaning to request a week full of toothpaste and four toothbrushes, and we ended up with four small packets of toothpaste. We had to call housecleaning at least 8 times over the course of the week for toothpaste, which was supposed to be complimentary.

There was a $12 dollar a day parking fee, which they did not tell us about when we called the hotel ahead of time.

The hotel employees were a bit cold, but there were a few friendly employees.

The good: Free drink tickets given at check-in, along with a little "free money" to gamble in their casino with. The rooftop pool is open all night and offers a nice view of downtown San Juan. Great restaurant recommendation from the front desk (Do not miss out on the pizza or coconut flan from Danny's International just down the street. So delicious!). Staff is generally very helpful and polite.

The bad: It's not well taken care of in areas - the room number had been ripped from our door and the numbers written on the door with magic marker, for example. Also, we stayed two separate nights, one at the beginning and one at the end of our trip, and our rooms lacked towels at both check-ins.

The very bad: The hotel restaurant. The first night we arrived late, in pouring rain and opted to eat there for convenience's sake. The food was terrible. Of our three different meals, none were edible. The waitress didn't appear at all surprised to take three full plates back at the end of the "meal" and never asked how everything was (she probably knew...).

Room Tip: We got a room for very low cost by through Expedia, by booking air & hotel at the same time. It...

This is a nice hotel. We paid $75.00 via Priceline. We paid $30.00 to upgrade to Ambassador club level at check in.
We got our nice 8th floor room at noon. Club level gets a decent fruit/yogurt/pastry/cereal type breakfast. In the evening you get appitizers and an honor bar. There is an excellent coffee machine availabe 24 hours.
I liked the neighborhood alot. There are manu good places to eat real Puerto Rican food. There are two walgreens, burgerking, subawy, two starbucks, everyting you could want.
The neighborhood is a mix of apartments and hotels, hence there are plenty of friendly locals and tourists around. The beach is two blocks from the front door of the hotel.
There are a very few homeless and one or two beggars.
The street scene is cleaner than Miami, New Orleans or many other mainland cities.
I prefer Condado to old San Juan or Isla Verde.
The staff are a littlt cold, but that is their problem. They were helpful in everything we asked.
Don't be put off by the bad reviews
