This was a nice location in Condado. We arrived late and stayed one more day just to visit Old San Juan. The hotel inself is fine. you should be aware of a few things. There is no elevator, but it is only about three stories. There is no parking lot. Park on the street (I got lucky!) or in a nearby big hotel garage for a stiff charge. They are also building condos next door so there was quite a bit of noise starting early in the morning. I'd go to Canario by the Sea a couple of blocks away until the construction is over, wlhich will probably be a long while.

“Beware of noise”

Think twice about staying here, at least for the next six months or so. Right next store to the property (less than 1 meter away) a major construction project is underway, a new high-rise. The noise is deafening, complete with jackhammers, screaming saws, and heavy truck traffic. And it all starts at 6:30 a.m., so don't count on sleeping in. The outdoor patio is charming, but you really can't enjoy it during the work week, and the noise can be heard in the rooms even with windows closed and a/c cranked up. Management seems indifferent.

There is construction next door between El Canario Inn and the San Juan Marriott. Crews work from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Area hotels and business owners have been advised construction will be completed by May 2007. El Canario by the Sea, located on the other side of the Marriott, is not being affected by this noise. If you have any questions, please contact me at CanarioPR@aol.com.
Thank you,

I stayed at El Canario Inn for one night. It's location is excellent if you are going to San Juan for shopping, business or travelling around. El Condado is very safe, and is very easy to get to Old San Juan, the beach or any of the shopping malls in the city.
The place is too basic, rooms are small, with window air conditioning ( which make a lot of noise and is not efficient ). But it is clean and safe. They have a basic breakfast, bread, cereal, juice and coffee.
The recepcion is bland, they don't seem to enjoy what they do. But the Dominican maids are simply excellent.
For the price and if you are staying for one night ( ok. . two ) the place is a good choice.

As some of the previous reviews have stated, the outside is very inviting as is the lobby, open air, checked tile floor, lovely plants. The side patio is also very cute but that is where it ends. We checked in for one night before a cruise and were greeted by a surly clerk who offered no help when we asked to check our large travel bags so we would not have to carry them upstairs. We knew there was no elevator but expected some help in this area. He said he was busy doing book work! After lugging everything up to the third floor we found a clean but sparse bedroom with a closet that had a peek thru to the adjacent room. The wall did not go all the way up! Not a very secure feeling. The bathroom was large, old and clean, kind of charming, but who needs just a charming bathroom! Our room was quiet enough and the beds just ok. The furniture in the room looked like it was retrieved from the Salvation Army. We were hoping for a quaint experience but instead got a letdown. Stay at the Marriott, a few steps away and forget about a local flavor. Not worth it!

“Inexpensive--Adequate Accommodations”

Was hesitant to stay at this Inn due to some of the negative reviews; however, needed a place to stay for a single night and the price was right. Joshua, the clerk at the front desk, was extremely helpful and friendly. He assisted me and others in my group with clean rooms, area information, and helpful hints. The rooms are definitely not upscale but were adequate for a brief stay. There is no pool at this inn but access to the beach is an easy two-minute walk--right around the corner with no streets to cross. The complimentary breakfast consisted of donuts, rolls, bread, cereal and fruit. Coffee, tea, and juice were also available. This is pretty much the standard fare for most of the hotels providing breakfast. I rated this hotel neutral/average for the accommodations but would definitely rate it above average for the personnel and convenience. Just a short walk away, you can catch a bus for 75 cents into Old San Juan. Additionally, there are many restaurants and stores within walking distance.
