I did this tour as part of a Old San Juan tour with Sun RICO tours. The Old San Juan part was great but the Bacardi Distillery part was a let down. For starters, the two drinks you get with this tour are a joke. They come in small plastic cups. The only good thing about them is that you get to sample any kind of rum drink you like including the Mojito.

They have a tractor pulled series of cars that take you to their presentation center which you could walk to from the receiving center. There, you are subjected to some Bacardi advertising where you find out they are "the number 1 selling brand in the U.S." Big whoop! I did find it interesting to learn about the history of the company and how they make rum. After the presentation, you see how they made rum before modernisation as well as various mementos from the company's past including the medals their rum won at various world exhibitions. You also get to smell the different flavors of rum they make as well as the different ages of rum. At the end of the presentation part, they show you how to make the Mojito and the popular rum and coke.

After that, you walk out, reboard the cart train and drive by the outside of the distillery building, bottling building and administrative buildings. They drop you off at the Casa Blanca building where you can buy all kinds of Bacardi logo souvenirs as well as all their kinds of flavored rums. They sell a 12 year rum here that they don't sell any where else. It'll cost you $70 for a bottle.

This is one tour you can pass on. The only thing I can think of that it would be really useful for is if you want a bunch of stuff with the Bacardi logo on it or if you really want a bottle of their 12 year old rum. Otherwise, save your time and see Old San Juan instead.

We with the Cruise. Bacardi Rum factory and City tour was part of our excursion. The tour was ok, more to educational type tour. We liked the part that we got to smell different Rum.
They gave us 2 drinks each whatever you like, I tried the Reserved. We live in US. so we allow to bring 5 liter per person. No, we did not bought 10 liter. We bought some and the price was reasonable and pay 7% tax. Still better price than on the cruise ship but they don't carry everything.
The other part of the tour, city tour to see to fort that was GREAT love it

“Save yourself a trip: the juice is not worth the squeeze”

Bacardi Rum Plant

Consistent with many other Tripadvisor reviews, the Bacardi rum plant visit was a disappointment. The crux of the tour is a tram ride to watch a movie and a bartender, both of which have as their sole purpose the promotion of Bacardi products. For those truly interested in learning about how rum is made, you won't leave the plant knowing anymore than what you did when you arrived. Consider the time and cost of the outing: setting aside about three hours minimum to ride a ferry from Old San Juan, haggle over ground transportation from the Catano dock to Barcadi's, wait for the tour to begin, endure the movie and the bar tender ads, and then reverse the sequence. If you want two small free Bacardi rum drinks, then this tour is for you. But you can find much more satisfying ways to use your time and money in San Juan than this outing. Overall, the juice literally is not worth the squeeze.

I like my rum and Bacardi is my favorite. I hopped on a bus to old San Juan then onto a ferry to cross the bay then onto a shared taxi which took us to the Bacardi distillery, all for < $5 US. 2 free drinks and a free tour was amazing. I went to school for Business Administration so I find the start of a business very interesting which they covered on the tour. I also went to college so I'm a fan of rum.

I'm Canadian so I was only allowed to bring back 1 bottle of reserve rum.

“Good Tour, Great Drinks”

We visited the Bacardi Rum Plant during our cruise stop to PR. The tour has changed as you watch a video of how Bacardi started and you move from room to another with a new speaker in each room. One of the rooms you were able to smell the different rums and at the end of the tour they took you back by trolly for the free drinks. The gift shop was very reasonably priced. We enjoyed seeing another part of PR we would not have gone to. The ferry ride was easy (.50 each way per person) and the taxi was $3.00 per person each way. A nice way to spend part of the day off the cruise ship
