“Four stars due to the private beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

There isn't too much sea life, so if one is turned out by predatory sea creatures, you're in luck.
That being said...the pool and the outdoor activities close at 9PM. Woah! That is really early for a resort that serves alcohol. I did not like that at all. Doesn't feel very grown up. I always wish there were an adult only section. Who wants to drink around children?
My door didn't lock and supposedly they were sending someone up to fix it, but they came late at night only and didn't return at a reasonable hour. Also, it didn't have a fridge but they remedied that.
The food is really expensive at the restaurants and except for the café at the entrance, it is either of mediocre quality or has really bad reviews. Not much by way of authentic Puerto Rican food at the hotels which is pretty disappointing. I can eat mediocre over-priced Morton's anywhere.
My colleague got a tile-like floor room and I got gross carpet. She could hear her neighbors very well in the garden like section. I had an "ocean-view" of the side area but someone kept smoking on their balcony so I didn't really want to smoke their cigarette (repeatedly).
Had a problem with a meal and the restaurant comp'd it (the one that has the breakfast buffet, not the Italian one) and that was good service. No one served or helped us at that restaurant beyond that. In fact, we sat down for a long time and didn't see the buffet prices--almost paid the crazy rate for that. The weird eggs benedict on bread pudding (basically savory stuffing in this case) was just plain wrong.
Eat at the condido part of town, it's not that far away or old San Juan if you're feeling adventurous or don't mind braving the traffic.

Room Tip: Ocean view had carpet, garden rooms had some kind of tile but were not very sound-proofed.

We have stayed at this location for 3 years. We have had nothing but great experience since staying here. This past January was the best check in we have every had. We do not eat at hotel because it is so expensive, but there are other places to eat a short walk from hotel. The hotel grounds/beach are is always nice and cleaned. Security is always present. We stay in the main building and our room has a balcony that overlooks the ocean. Looking forward to next January for another stay.

a great place to stay even though the lobby feels really dated. It has a great beach ( only private beach around) and fabulous views. Room was big and comfortable. Good food but expensive ( Morton's) and great shopping. But you'll need a car to go anywhere as you really can't walk to restaurants, bars, sightseeing, and it seems every cab ride cost a minimum of $15.

The Caribe Hilton was warm, welcoming, and had everything we wanted and needed in a hotel. We loved the central location, the helpful staff. The restaurants on site were had delicious food. I'm still salivating over my lunch at the Pina Colada Club and dinner at the Lemongrass. I loved having a Starbucks on site, too. There were many families with young children on site, but we found the layout of the outdoor pools and rest areas to allow for areas of merriment and peace. Our bed was comfortable, we were given a light and airy room with a balcony overlooking the water. We would definitely stay here again, and plan on doing so!

Hilton Caribe in San Juan was a disappointment. The hallway carpeting near our room was not tacked down properly and rippled. Similar in the bedroom. Service was "ok", but it was like being in a cattle herd, no personal touches. The restaurants were overpriced. Vegetable dish I ordered was a cheap freezer bag of dehydrated shriveled veggies, at a cost of $30.00! The waiter never came back to check if we liked our meal so I was stuck with it. At the end, when I complained, he did remove it from the bill. But I would not stay there again.

My wife and I stayed one night post cruise. The grounds are beautiful. There are swans, ducks, and peacocks. The pools are really nice. The inside of the hotel did show some signs of wear. Our shower door was loose. The rooms are large and very clean. There's a Starbucks onsite and there is one by the pool. We would stay again. Awm

The price of this hotel does not justify what you get and there is an 18% fee added to your final bill for outdoor amenities. The outdoor area is nice but rooms are dated and service is average. We enjoyed San Juan but we will go to a different hotel next time.
