“Fantastic view of the ocean, great service, food and very clean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

I stayed at this Hotel 1 night in Jan/12 before going on my cruise and 2 nights coming back.
The view of the ocean off my balcony was breath taking!
Apparently this is the only Hotel in San Juan that has its own private beach, the rest are public, so it was very quiet and relaxing around the pool & beach area and not that crowded.
I enjoyed a buffet breakfast 1 morning which was very good and they also have Starbucks on site for a quick breakfast or Subway within very close walking distance as well if you prefer that for lunch.
Rooms were very clean and the service was top notch!

We arrived for a wedding on Saturday, paying full freight for the room (rather than booking through a discounter such as Hotwire, Expedia, or Priceline). We were placed in the Villas II Tower and had to bring our own luggage up (he bellhops were not busy, just preoccupied). On the day of the wedding, room wasnt made up until almost 3pm and only after we called the front desk at 130p and complained. We awoke Monday morning at 6p to the sound of construction on the adjoining property. This could be a jewel of a hotel if the staff were a little more atentive to the needs of the guests. Prices for food were extremely high. There is a Subway shop just off the property and if its a quick lunch your looking for-go there.

Room Tip: ASk for the main tower not Villas II Tower

We had a wonderful time here. Try to get a room with an ocean view - it's worth it. The pools and beach are beautiful. The jacuzzis were always on and hot. The hammocks under the palm trees were marvelous. As far as eating - the Lemongrass Restaurant was excellent. I wouldn't bother with any of the other restaurants on the property, though - they are way over-priced and the food is not very good. For breakfast (and for cheaper wine and beer), go around the corner to the little store and buy fresh fruit, teas, cereals, yogurt, etc. to have in your room or on the beach. The buses go right past the hotel -- I suggest a 50 cent bus ride into the old town as opposed to a $12 taxi ride. We even walked in ... a nice 30 minute walk for exercise. The people at the concierge desk were always very helpful with bus routes and restaurants! A very pleasant stay.

I just came back from the most beautiful vacation I had every taken. I stayed at the Carbie Hilton and it was breath taking. This hotel and staff provided my husband and I with a romantic and memorable stay. The staff was amazing taking care of my every desire. Pool was amazing and the beach was great. It was so relaxing. We enjoyed every moment of it. The only thing I did not enjoy was the couples massage it was terrible. Other than that it is a great place to stay

I stayed here for a week in April while attending a conference at this hotel. This is a large sprawling resort, and even though it was filled to capacity, it was easy to find a quiet corner, or a place to relax. It was a very good experience.

The hotel has a very large lobby area, and the check-in was easy. I had an ocean-view king on the 5th floor of the main building, and the room had obviously been renovated in the last few years. The bed was wonderful. Everything in the room was clean and modern, including a very nice flat-screen television. There as a small fridge which was great for stocking up on cold drinks. The balcony was small, but there was enough space for two people to sit and watch the waves (and this is where I spent some time each evening).

The hotel has three connected pools, but each pool was quite small, at least compared to most other resorts that I have stayed in. Two of the pools were great for kids, and a third was primarily associated with a swim-up bar. There are two very nice hot-tubs that are somewhat strangely located behind the pool bar - you have to either walk around the pool area to get there, or swim through two pools and then head up a few stairs. The pools were nice, but not great.

The separate beach area was the center of activity, and they have created some wonderful spaces for lazing about. There are open spaces for sun worshippers, and shady hammock areas for those who want to enjoy the breeze.

A highlight of the trip was snorkelling in the private beach area. The water is very clear and it is quite easy to see dozens of different types of fish within just a few hundred feet from shore. There is a rock wall that fences the beach area, and there is some coral and wonderful hideaways for fish along the wall. I strong recommend spending some time snorkelling when you stay here.

The staff at the hotel were great. The conceirge made some very good suggestions for restaurants and sights. The place was generally well organized. The only minor concern was that it took us almost 30 minutes to check-out; they just did not have enough staff working at check-out time.

One of the two elevators in the main building seemed to break-down at least once a day - which meant for some modest delays in coming and going. At most, it meant a minor inconvenience, and one day a staff member encouraged us to take one of the service elevators (walk to the left of the main elevator bank, then turn right and right again - essentially going in behind the main bank) and this made a huge difference.

The biggest problem with the resort is the price of meals at hotel restaurants - which were rediculous. However, it is easy to find alternatives. The Pina Colada restaurant which is separately owned by attached to the hotel offers nice sandwich meals for $15 or so, and there is a Subway and an reasonable (though not cheap) Sushi and Chinese restaurante around the corner from Subway. The old city is about a 40 minute walk (or just a few minutes by taxi and there are dozens of great options (in fact every meal I had in San Juan was great). There is a great little local hamburger place about a 10 minute walk from the hotel on the way to the old city that I would highly recommend - great simple burgers, fried, beer, etc. at extremely reasonable prices. Alternatively, you can walk in the opposite direction, across the bridge (past the Conrad Hilton) and find quite a few restaurant options within 15 minutes of the hotel. We found a Mexican restaurante on the left past the Hilton that was quite good.

Overall, a very good hotel.

The pluses..great beds, terrific pool area, and a great view from the Lagoon Villa. The minuses...the age of the hotel is evident everywhere you look (rusty pipes, cracked tile, chipped bar tables, flaking paint, etc.), what hotel in PR doesn't rake the beach?, the prices for drinks and food are very high given the tired condition of the hotel and the food value, two meals at Italian restaurant were boring. Oh, and don't book this hotel through a third party because they won't accommodate upgrade requests even for an Honors member. generally found PR to be very expensive for food, wine (just crazy!), and taxis.

This resort is beautiful and fairly well maintained. A 2 mile walk to Old San Juan, public bus transportation available close by, taxis always available. The beach is crescent shaped and reef protected, good for snorkeling. Pool complex is large with ample seating, swim up pool bar. Staff friendly and accommodating, no casino so this property is quieter than most, non smoking property also. The garden area offers an interesting array of creatures such as peacocks, swans, turkeys, ducks and beautiful koi. Very peaceful walkway and seating area Morton's Steakhouse on site, try the 5PM-6:30PM happy hour at the bar, dress is casual although brochure indicates otherwise. A negative is that they allow diapered children in all of the pools which is a health issue.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main building above the lobby have the best views, try to get above floor 7. The east...
