“All Stared In A Senior Prom Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2012

I stay here in May 2005, in my senior prom weekend. This hotel was great, the service was first class and also the Piña Coladas was to another level. The view represent the blue of the Atlantic Oceans are, specialy in the Caribbean. Since, 2005 a group of high school friends and I booked this hotel every summer. Feels like home!

We stayed here pre-cruise for 3 nights and it is in a great location. The 1st night we were in a room in the villas 2 tower and it was old and smelled musty. The room was clean but needs updating. I asked to be moved and the next day we moved to a room in the main building, much better. It is new and fresh and we had a nice view of the pool and ocean. This is where you want to be. The pool and grounds were very nice, you can find lounge chairs either on the beach or by the pool and they have a swim up bar which is a plus. We had breakfast in the restaurant which is buffet and they have a good selection but a bit pricey. We did not eat lunch or dinner at the hotel. I would go back to this hotel for sure if I knew I could get a room in the newer part of the hotel.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask to be in the newer part of the hotel. The villas rooms are older and need to be updat...

Spent 4 nights at the Caribe and it fell far short of expectations. The rooms had peeling paint, signs were falling off the wall and the ice machine was broken--just to name a few. It's a beautiful location but the hotel is very tired and certainly doesnt deserve a 4 star rating. Expected much more from this iconic home of the Pina Colada!

Room Tip: Try to get in the H Honors tower--this room is supposedly better than the standard.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are deeply disappointed to hear that you had such a bad experience during your stay with us. We just finished the renovation of several floors on the Main Building and we keep working so all our rooms are up to standard. Thank you again for your feedback.

We arrived the day before our cruise and after a long 12 hour flight, we were tired. We had never been there before, so didn't know where to eat. We knew the restaurants in the hotel were pricey, so opted for room service. We knew this would be pricey also, bu we were just to tired to try to find something cheaper. So, it was no surprise that 2 hamburgers and fries delivered was $50. The room was ok, needed a little work, but we were too tired to really look it over. When we finished our cruise, we again stayed at this hotel, but for 2 nights this time. We disembarked off the ship by 10am, so by the time we got to the hotel, it was way to early to check in. With this said, we had to wait, and wait, and wait for a long 5 hours for our room. Finally we checked to see if a room was available, and there was. We had the porters take our bags up and met them up at the room. It was only on the 4th floor which I didn't like but by that time I wasn't willing to wait any longer. The room was nice, except for the bathroom door. It was on a track, but only at the top, so it doesn't really "close". It slides, and it was broken, We then wanted to put some water bottles in our fridge, and that to wasn't working. We called the front desk and the did send some one to fix the items. I just found the bathroom sliding door to be weird. There was also a charge of $40 on our bill from the bar that wasn't ours, so we called the front desk and they cleared it up right away, so you might want to check over your bill closely. The bar downstairs has really good drinks, I think mix was optional as these drinks were very strong, but good. The pina colada was my favorite. The staff was really friendly and helpful and there was never a very long wait for a taxi!! The drivers don't have meters, so you just have to ask them how much they charge to go to certain places. All in all it wasn't that bad. Might stay closer to the docks next time though.

Room Tip: The higher the better, on the Condado side or you are really close to the top of the roof on the low...

This was the second year in a row we took a High School baseball team to Puerto Rico. The Caribe Hilton was a great selection for our group. The grounds are big enough to allow the players a little freedom. Our fear with other local properties was the players wandering offsite and possibly getting into trouble. The grounds were such we could allow the kids the autonomy freely come and go on their own, but still stay on the property. The staff is great and the rooms were nice. Our games were in the local areas of Caguas, Carolina, and Canovanas. The Hilton was nice in that it was right off the main road and it was easy to get to the highway every morning. We stayed at the Caribe in 2011 and again in 2012. Plans are underway to stay again in 2013. As other reviews have said...great views, great service, and food might be a little on the high side, but for our group that was a small price to pay. We'll be back.

I recently stayed here, from February 16th to the 21st, 2012. I loved it and would definitely come back. I've stayed in the Marriott in Condado, and at El Convento in Old San Juan, but this was my favorite place as a place to stay for a whole trip to Puerto Rico. We spent this trip in the San Juan area (besides an excursion to El Yunque, booked through the hotel concierge for $77/person). The Caribe Hilton has it's own private beach, unlike the other hotels in Condado (one long public beach with private pool areas) or in Old San Juan (no beach). We could walk 40 minutes west to Old San Juan or 30 minutes east to Condado, or 15 minutes south to Miramar, or take a fast $12 cab ride from the hotel to Old San Juan (not sure how much to Condado, since we walked it. We didn't rent a car, but if you did, they have a parking lot.

As for the hotel itself, it's clean and chic, and we stayed in one of their "renovated rooms". Not sure if the check-in woman just wanted to make us feel better that our floor still had a little dust from putting in the new carpeting, and they just finished putting up the artwork by the elevator on our floor the day after we checked in. But it was good to know everything was brand new, and the hotel room was beautiful! But beware, we stayed on the 3rd floor on the west side, and it was right over the mechanical roof of the lobby, so when our door was open, we could hear a droning sound. But it wasn't anything too bad. If you are on a higher floor, you probably wouldn't hear anything.

All of the hotel staff were pretty friendly, including the three parrots in the lobby, who know how to say "hola" and "hello". At night, you can hear the coquis all around outside. Something you'd miss if you stayed in Condado.

The beach area was so great, we didn't even go in the pool. They used riprap to create a sort of lagoon, with a gradually sloping beach facing north and west. It's not a very large beach, but even though there were a lot of people (president's day weekend), there was still plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, and room to swim. The hammocks tended to get filled up until the afternoon (but they are awesome for when you want to get a break from the sun in the dappled shade of the palm trees), and the couches out over the water also got claimed early in the morning. We were hitting the beach around 9am each time we spent the morning at the hotel. The bar food is surprisingly plentiful, which made the price not so bad (I'm from New York though, so if you're from somewhere else, you may think it's expensive). Pina coladas are $10, from a mix, but pretty good and refreshing, with a maraschino cherry in each one.

All in all, it has a great location right between Old San Juan, Condado, and Miramar, the private beach is great, and the room was chic and comfortable. I will definitely plan to come back here on my next trip. Only took me three trips to Puerto Rico to find it!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor, since the 3rd floor is a bit noisy from the mechanical roof over t...

This was a very nice family option near San Juan if you want the beach and resort experience. The porters were excellent. The mojitos and pina coladas were excellent. The food was only so so.

Room Tip: We got 521 which overlooked the ocean in part and the little fort I like it a lot.
