“Many thanks for a great vacation, especially many thanks to Marisol!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2012

We had a great vacation at the Caribe Hotel partly thanks to a fantastic service from the personnel at the hotel, but especially from Miss Marisol at the Breakfast Buffee who where absolutely fantastic and gave us very valuable information which saved us a great deal of money. That is the kind of service and information you like as a customer.
The hotel is situated very beautifully and we would love to come back.
Ciao from the Oscarsson family from Sweden.

This is one of the most popular hotels in Puerto Rico...More than 20 years old.
Hotel have gone through many renovations.
Resort type hotel where you will find many amenities including a private beach and access to a spanish fortress.
If you want to visit Old San Juan this is one of the best hotels to stay in because of the location and the many things you can do.
Hotel has many restaurants, including the great Morton's Steakhouse.

Over priced/dumpy/needs a paint job- and re-do/and it's situated in a bad area. Way way over priced- 25.00 (usd) per person for a breakfast buffet? They're kidding? Walk 2 minutes from the hotel and have breakfast at the Subway- for 10.00 for 2- freshly made omelets with vegetables and coffee and you'll also get to view the really cruddy/run down area the hotel neighborhood is in. Abandoned buildings, trash---everywhere----not a garbage can in sight -so just toss it on the ground and walk away. Nice.
Frankly Puerto Rico is really on the way down and I'm sad, because I really like PR-and I like the people and have been the several times-but in 1 year-it's really declined. Apparently 20,000 municipal workers were let go Jan. 2011--and it shows all around. The place has major political corruption. Sad.

Room Tip: ask for a room ---away-- from the street---up high---or you'll hear BOOM BOOM from car radios

I stayed here for a couple of nights early Jan 2012 and found the property average at best, and not of the standard I was expecting. The room was very tired with an ok sized bathroom. The location was fine and it was quite and there were no problems getting a cab for the very quick trip into Old San Juan. The best part of the property was the bed - very comfortable with good quality linen.

I recently spent four nights at the Caribe Hilton with my wife and our 8 month-old daughter. We were excited for our first family vacation and had splurged to stay at the Hilton Resort because we expected it to be a clean and elegant hotel. Unfortunately we did not find this to be the case.

The outside facilities - the beach, the pools, and the gardens - are wonderful. They are beautiful and well-maintained. We had a great time playing at the beach. I wish I could say the same about our rooms. The first night we stayed in a dingy, old room that would have been outdated in the 1990's. While it did have an ocean view, there was a parking garage right between. When our daughter crawled on the floor, her hands were immediately filthy with grime.

We complained about the room immediately and asked to be moved but we were informed the hotel was fully booked. We could request again tomorrow, and they sent someone up to vacuum the room. The next day we again inquired about moving and were told we could move that day at 6pm. When we finally moved (we had to move our own things after waiting hours for someone to assist) we found our new room cleaner, but equally inelegant. The view was improved (over the garden now) and the tile floors were not grimy, so we were happy about the change.

We found the walls to be horribly thin, with even moderate conversations from our neighbors echoing through our room. Passersby in the hall made noise at all hours of the night. Normally this would not annoy me very much, but with my infant daughter trying to sleep in the crib it made me very frustrated.

In general we found the staff to be helpful and accommodating, but slow to provide service. We were very disappointed by the overpriced, nickle-and-dime atmosphere. We expected prices at the resort to be steep but were surprised to find them as astronomical as they were. The night before our departure, we called the front desk to request a late checkout so our daughter could nap in the room before we left. We were told we would need to call back the next day. Puzzling, but we agreed.

The next morning we called and again requested a late checkout. We were told it would be an additional $80 for two extra hours in the room. We were stunned! Never before had we been charged for a late checkout. But this is consistent with the way the hotel operates, constantly reaching for your wallet.

The bottom line is that I would not stay there again, even if it were half the price. It was not a good place to stay with children and it was not the elegant, fun place I had hoped it would be.

For those who say the prices are a bit high ... you're right. However this is the Caribbean and higher prices at resorts are the norm at resorts. My massage at the spa was great, but it lacked the usual amenities at spas (i.e. razors, cologne, etc.). And it's a spa ... where's the hot tub??? And what's up with getting just one towel?

Speaking of hot tubs ... the one by the pool did not work. There was a sign saying it will be fixed on Monday. I think that sign has been there for several Mondays.

The facilities are nice. Check out the gardens. The beach is small, but clean with plenty of lounge chairs for everyone. The staff does lack a friendly attitude (especially the black woman who works in the gift shop) that you'd find at Ritz or Hyatt.

The piña colada club restaurant is not worth the trip inside. You couldn't do room charges, the service was slow, and they were out of most of the deserts on the menu for the week we stayed. However, this hotel is where the piña colada was invented ... so that's pretty cool.

We had a great time and I would not hesitate to stay there again. We met someone who has been vacationing there every year for the past 30 years, so that tells you about the quality of the hotel. To the management ... it is madding to me that the maids kept leaving the glass in the room above the refigerator. I know it's picking but leave the glasses in the bathroom. Some of us do actually brush our teeth and take medication, lol.

Stayed at the Caribe Hilton after a cruise and wish we would have stayed longer. The grounds and facility is great and the view of the ocean with the breeze was awesome.
