“Excellent option”

Unfortunately i was on a business trip and wasnot able to enjoy all the amenities. Great pool, beach access, gym, variety of restaurants.room was excellent as well as wifi access. I got free breakfast as i am a gold member of hilton honors. Overall great experience!

My husband and I just returned from a 3 night, 4 day weekend away at the Caribe Hilton. We have been coming here since 2007, so we wanted to go back to a place where we felt comfortable, especially since it was for a short time. We are both very laid back vacationers and don't like to complain about anything, but sometimes you have to say something. here are a few things we noted on this trip.

Grounds / Pool: Last stay before this was back in 2009, we noticed a little difference from the food, drinks, and maintenance of the grounds etc, but put it off as just a minor issue or maybe they were not staffed adequately? anyway, still had a good time, and gave them an outstanding review! This time around we definitely noticed a deterioration. The pool was dirty, cups floating inside and on bottom of the pool ground, gum, and other things like needing a treatment of some sort.

This is a family oriented hotel, so we expected to see children, (which is always nice) however, the pools were filled with young teenagers, college kids and small children, so much so that they occupied the whole jacuzzi at one point. I don't know what was going on there this weekend, but it was chaotic and felt more like a budget hotel*, not the 4 star they claim. (*when your paying 4 star prices)

Room: We originally booked a garden view room thru our travel agent. wasn't really concerned with the view, but more so a decent room. When we arrived, it was way before check in (maybe around 11am) the concierge graciously gave us a different room, i guess to avoid us having to wait for the garden view that wasn't ready till 4pm, which we would have waited for... she "upgrades" us to a partial ocean view. We get to our room, and noticed it was terribly dated (some bldgs and rooms are pending renovations), and our "ocean View" was of the roof of another bldg. We had to return to the front desk and ask for another room, preferably the one we originally had booked if necessary, as long as it was not one of the older rooms. We get the garden view and it was much nicer and definitely had some upgrading done. I don't get why they would have put someone there if you had a better room booked to begin with, or have stayed here before, but my observation in talking to other people we met there that have never stayed at the Hilton, is they probably give the good rooms to first time clients to get them to come back? that is what it appears to me. so i was a bit annoyed.. The garden-view room however was dirty, had food stuck on the desk from previous guest, and hairs on the floor. but again, we still had a great time. just disappointed on how the Caribe Hilton fell off from their original standards.

will we return? not sure, alot of hotels in PR to visit. I will not take away the nice people you do meet there that have worked at the hotel for years, so when you come back they welcome you like family, but it is business and vacations are limited for some, so i would prefer to go back to a place that is consistent, no surprises :) hope this was helpful.

The lack of clealiness that you experience is unacceptable, also I want you know that this year we will renovate our Main Building for all the enjoyement of our guest. My husband and I stayed one night at the Caribe Hilton after the completion of our 8 night Caribbean cruise. We stayed in a garden view room and could not have been more pleased. The room was quite large and modern. Very clean and comfortable. We only had 24 hours to spend in San Juan so we asked the concierge for advice on what to do and where to eat. Went to Old San Juan and toured Fort San Cristobel and had fabulous dinner. We did eat lunch and breakfast at the hotel and food was wonderful, though very pricy. But the price of our dinner in Old San Juan was comparable so it may just be the cost of being in the touristy area. We loved the hammocks and beautiful grounds. Made us forget we were in a large city! We both would highly recommend the Caribe Hilton.

We stayed at the Caribe on a recommendation for 4 days before a cruise. it was nice enough but it was neither at the beaches nor near Old Town. The best part was that the 30 minute walk into town was a great way to work off the great Puerto Rican food we had :-)

We had lunch one day and breakfast another at the informal restaurant - which was quite good but wow the prices. We arrived around noon the first day and our room wasn;t ready so we went for lunch. On the last morning we had breakfast. Mostly this was because the hotel is near absolutely nothing so the only choice is to eat on-site when you have bags or are waiting for someone or something.

The rooms were nice enough - very comfortable. The free internet was only in the lobby so we spent quite a bit of time there. Get a room as high up as possible - the lower floors mostly overlook air conditioning units.

There wer 2 elevators and one was always broken so it was a pain.

Room Tip: As high up as you can.

I was so delighted to have my jewerly returned to me after returning home! I left two bags in the hotel and when I realized this, called frantically to see if I could have someone look for it. The employees were very helpful and did everyting they could. Finally on about the 2nd or 3rd day, I got the call that the maid had turned in the jewelry!!!! I was so happy. Not only are the employees wonderful, but the hotel is beautiful, clean and very comfortable. I would highly recommend!

The hotel concierge and pools make this hotel great. They are clean and perfect.

The rooms leave a lot to be desired. They are dirty and old, but how much time do you spend in the rooms on vacation?

If the rooms were much cleaner, I would have given this 4 or 5 stars.

Buffet was great, and prices weren't too astronomical.

Restaurants were great. Steakhouse was definitely a plus.

This hotel is very nice, the beds are comfortable, and rooms clean. The staff was very friendly and accomodating
The food and drinks are very, very over priced. My suggestion is to buy your beer, pop etc at a store nearby and put it in your fridge in your room. I would also recommend not eating at the hotel. We had breakfast for $14 pp and they only allow you to get the hot foods once (eggs, bacon,sausage). It reminded us of the free breakfast you get at Holiday Inn., definitely not worth $14pp.
Their beach and pool area is nice. Can get very crowded as there is not much room for everyone that is booked in the hotel at once.
