Owner description: More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well. The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

“Beautiful installation, and an educational experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

You'll learn a lot about Puerto Rican art if you go here, and it's worth knowing. On our visit, the exhibits were skewed to the 20-21st century collections, which was fine by me. Very friendly staff.

“Great little museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

We had a great tour guide and loved the museum. The koi pond in the back is nice and the art work told a lot about the Puerto Rican culture and history

“Enjoyable afternoon”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico was near our hotel so my husband and I decided to walk down and check it out on a hot afternoon. Not only a good respite from the heat, but an enjoyable afternoon as well. Good value for admission price. The Museo houses many different styles of art, including several different mediums--photography, painting, video, and sculpture to name a few. Not nearly as exciting as the art museums I've visited in Europe, but still a fine time. The gardens are beautiful. Don't forget to roam around outside and check out the sculptures and pond!

“Good museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

A very beautiful building. There are many styles of art from modern to classical and everythig in between. We spent about two and a half to three hours in the museum and enjoyed it very much. If you go on Wednesday wait until 2PM and you get in free. But even if you go on other days it's not very expensive. My wife found it cold in the museum so if you get cold easily bring a sweater. The garden out back is almost worth the price of admission, there is a pond full of fish that follow you as you walk around, I guess some people feed them because some of them are very big. So go and enjoy the place it's worth it.

“Must see for art lovers...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

If you are into art at any level you must check this place out. You will see many of the works of the big names that don't get around much to other cities.
