“Big Historical Doorway.. Wow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Really big historical doorway into a new era in the western world and into Old San Juan. Massive doors and a great entrance to the New World. Still always guarded, this door is a great photo op. Didn't like the bright orange cones and barrels set around, but put a person directly in front of them and they will disappear.

“Good to see for history and photo.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

Good to see for history and photo but save for last or next visit if you're pressed for time. Near Paseo de la Princesa and a short walk from the cruise pier.

People arriving the island in centuries XVII and XVIII crossed this gate to enter the then, walled city. It´s from 1635.

“Photo Op”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Great photo op with it's huge red door. Be sure to look out over the wall and take photos of the sentry stations on the wall.

“Really cool, don't go out of your way”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

It was really cool, a good photo opportunity, and of historical significance, but I wouldn't travel out of my way to see it. Luckily, it is along the route of many tours through Old San Juan and if you're visiting the forts, museums, and cathedral, it's an easy walk down a hill and back up again.
