I stayed here on a wedding planning trip. El Convento is a wonderful hotel. The service is outstanding, the location can't be beat, and the hotel is full of character.

I checked online for locations in Old San Juan and El Convento kept being mentioned as the best choice. It was for me also. It mixed location, a very nice section of the old city, with historic charm. I was very surprised by the modern twists to such a historic hotel. Flat screen tv, data ports on the desk as well as a house terminal for those who didn't bring their laptops. The staff was numerous and as helpful as anyone might hope for. I was refered to local-style restaurants even when they have three fine ones of their own. The rain forest tour booked for me was first class. The staff listened to what I wanted and was delightfuly helpful. I would recommend the El Convento to anyone traveling to Puerto Rico.

We stayed at El Convento for two nights before boarding a cruise ship bound for the South Caribbean, and I can only echo the other guests’ favorable comments. The hotel is gorgeous, in a perfect location and the staff is excellent. We booked a room with a balcony view of the ocean and found it to be large, comfortable and clean. The staff servicing the room was great – we didn’t see them too often, but when we would return from exploring the city, the room would be made up or turned down in the evening.

The location is great – El Convento is close to many bars, restaurants and some of the best shopping in Old San Juan. We only ate breakfast and lunch at the restaurant in the atrium, and both meals were pleasant. Unfortunately, we missed the wine and cheese reception, but enjoyed the free bottles of water. In addition to the bottles of water, there is also a self-service bar where you can mix your own drinks and on the honor system, charge them to your room.

We had an excellent experience with the staff; both prior to and after our arrival. They were helpful, pointed out the many amenities and gave great restaurant/bar recommendations.

One thing I can add to the other guests’ great comments is that El Convento is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World (which only includes 440 hotels around the world and each hotel much maintain a high level of quality to stay on the list). To find out more visit – http://www.slh.com.

This is a great hotel set in an old Convent (as the name suggests!) Located in the centre of Old San Juan just opposite the beautiful San Juan Cathedral.

With 3 restaurants and bars the complex is quite self contained,Cana deserves a special mention for its great local dishes,can't go to Puerto Rico without sampling some Mofongo!

The staff were polite and friendly especially Shannon on the front desk! The one female duty manager was not as nice but she was in the minority.

A splash pool is located on the roof and a wine and cheese reception is held every night at 6pm. A nice touch but get there fast as Puerto Rico is on the American cruise ship itinery so swathes of trippers from the mainland US will soon be disturbing the peace!

Overall a great hotel in the European style,the location is perfect!
