“Peace and relaxation.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013 via mobile

Yes relax and chill in this beautiful hotel. Rooms are a bit quirky but after u settle down and realize this is a small hotel and not the big chain stuff. Some rooms have limited views. It is expensive but worth it!
Loved the restaurants in the hotel as well!! Help is soooo nice and the open courtyard is wonderful. Pool is just for dipping but very private and relaxing not big but this is not those ocean front places with big resort pools. If you want beach this is Not ur hotel.
Walk to everything from there or hop on the free town minibus for tourists. Explore and enjoy the slow pace of old town . Btw also loved there free wine and cheese at 6pm .

I love love love this hotel. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The location was amazing and the rooms were over the top! I would definately stay again and recommend it to all. When we arrive it was very hot and we were a little early. The staff attempted to accomadate us and get us into our room as quickly as possible. The daily rooms service and cart service was to die for. Also every evening was and cheese and wine reception..that was absoultely relaxing and very enjoyable.

This review is for our wedding reception held in El Convento. El convento and Glorimar were awesome to work with and all the guests loved the venue. We met with Glorimar a few months before the wedding for food tasting and she was very accomodating. All the guests also loved the food...everything tasted so good! They were also super good with bringing everything out in a timely fashion. We feel like it couldn't have gone any smoother. We also got a suite for the night of the wedding and the rooms are fabulous. They brought up all our stuff from the wedding up to the room for us. I would definitely recommend having a wedding here - there is no other place quite like it. Thank you so much.

Great location in the old town San Juan. Personal, unique, and elegant hotel, which is also part of the small luxury hotels in the world -chain. Full of history. Ok breakfast. Only downside was the restaurant recommendation given from the reception desk, they recommended Café Puerto Rico, which was not nice. Restaurant Marmelade would have been better. All in all, however, can warmly recommend this hotel.

I am providing my rating regarding eating at El Convento. I did not stay at the hotel. The courtyard is a beautiful location and a peaceful place to enjoy lunch and a glass of wine in between sight-seeing. The day I was there, Carolina was serving our table and she was so lovely and took the time to answer my questions about places to visit in Old San Juan, talk about Puerto Rican home cooking and provide menu recommendations. She even took the time to print me some recipes! The beef Mofongo was very deliclous! As I said I cannot speak to the accomodations but the inner courtyard is a lovely place for a drink or a bite to eat.

fairly friendly employees, rooms nicely decorated, lovely location in the old part of San Juan.
bathroom very small (room Nr. 206). Personal should be better controlled in theire work. Could be cleaner, bed-linen should be changed oftener.
The service in the main restaurant is very poor, slow and not attentive. one evening no Tonicwater for drinks at happy hour in the restaurant- bar available, another evening no peppermint leaves left to mix a second drink but no information by the waiter or bar tender.
The impression: not enough control by the management and poor training of the personal.

EROSA, Manager at Hotel El Convento, responded to this review, February 4, 2013
Mrs. Obscurename,

It was a real pleasure personally meeting you this past week during your stay at El Convento. Once again, I want to thank you for your feedback. Every guest is our most valuable judge when it comes to our product and service. You pointed out several areas of improvement when I felt it was appropriate not to charge you for your meal do to the inconveniences experienced and I also made a commitment to improve in every area. You will be glad to learn we have a new food and beverage manager on board, sharing new standards and procedures with our wait staff in order to ensure that these particulars are reduced and if possible, eliminated at all.

I certainly hope that this incident will not keep you from returning to our hotel as I would like to welcome you back so that you may experience a different thought of our restaurant.

Please, receive my warmest regards,

Rubén Alvarez

Lovely, historic, serene, with an exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. But please note: This is not the place for your "destination wedding" of 20- or 30-something friends! No bar scene, no beach, but plenty of people (like us) who will glare at you for being your normal loud boisterous obnoxious selves.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms ending in "009." They are noisy.
