“Positively Charming Boutique Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

The CasaBlanca is a lovely hotel in a perfect location in Old San Juan. The lobby decor is Casablanca (as in the movie) themed. The classic queen room, though itty bitty tiny, is lovingly appointed and the bed is a dream. I had an interior room with no window, but I honestly didn't mind. It is such a cozy space. The staff is wonderful, particularly Manny at the front desk.

There are two negatives: (1) no elevator, but there is a strong young porter that carried luggage to and fro the suite, so if you have mobility issues this hotel is not for you; (2) breakfast/brunch is a horrific disaster. How does one mess up waffles and a mimosa? Disgusting. Don't waste your money and calories dining at the hotel restaurant. There are far too many places in the immediate vicinity for a delicious and modestly priced meal.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room.

Right in the heart of Old San Juan...easy walk to all the shopping, the Fort, the harbor...and such beautiful, unique blue bricks you won't see anywhere else! Tons of sidewalk dining, where the sunny streets make such a pleasant background. The Casablanca is the most Unique place I have stayed...each room is decorated so differently from the others...yummy food and drinks at the in-house bar/restaurant...good happy hour, and again, the BEST location to all happenings in Old San Juan...I have stayed here on all 4 of my forays to Puerto Rico...and I plan to stay here again in the future! Love it!

Room Tip: There is only one room with 2 queen beds, reserve early if you want that...and no elevator in-house...

We stayed in room 4g, and had a balcony all to ourselves. We stayed one night, and wish we had a few more nights before our cruise!

Cons: small rooms, no elevator, no iron, have to call for a hairdryer

Pros: clean, friendly staff, porters to carry your luggage, great restaurant, and the rooftop deck is absolutely fantastic and worth the climb!

Absolutely recommended! We would stay here again anytime.

We enjoyed the atmosphere and very helpful and professional staff (gracias, Miguel!). Good, clean, comfortable and not-too-kitchy, despite the themed aspect of the place. Lots of nearby restaurants, cafes, and shopping and - like everyone in OSJ - very convenient to the historic buildings, forts, and museums.

Room Tip: There's no elevator, so if walking is a concern choose a room on a lower floor. Staff are helpf...

My wife and I were in San Juan for our honeymoon in March of 2015. We had originally considered this hotel for our stay, but opted for a private apartment instead. We wanted to visit the hotel anyway because of the history and charm it had. We were extremely pleased that it met all of our expectations. We had drinks at the bar(BEST mojitos in San Juan) and made friends with Thomas the bartender/chef. He was great and even treated us to some off the menu specials since it was our honeymoon. The other staff were fantastic as well and made our visit memorable. We wished we would have stayed a few days at this hotel instead of opting for the private apartment for the entire stay. We WILL be back on our one year anniversary and definitely stay and this little gem of a hotel in San Juan.- Mateo and Mandy

What a wonderful experience. The lasting memory about this hotel would have to be the staff. What an incredibly helpful bunch of people, so much fun and such a great attitude. We stayed in the third floor suite with adjoining room (we went with another couple). Never had a problem with street noise, but I do take earplugs on all my vacations. What a charming room, I love the small boutique hotels. Loved that there was not TV in our room, but there was one in the adjoining room. Beware-NO elevator, wasn't that big a deal for us. Would highly recommend this place in a heart beat.

We originally booked the Villa Herencia property through Bookings.com on the strength of their reviews for a one night stay in Viejo San Juan. The day before our arrival we got a frantic email from one Joyce Oller, Reservations Manager for both Villa Herencia and CasaBlanca, asking if we would kindly consider moving to CasaBlanca since there'd been an issue with overbooking for a wedding party at Villa Herencia. Turns out this was a good move. Unlike Villa Herencia, CasaBlanca has a restaurant serving breakfast. We agreed to switch properties and for our trouble Ms. Oller comp'd us breakfast for two the next morning. We got a balcony room overlooking Fortaleza street so we could watch the parade of tourists and hotel guests drift by three floors below us. It reminded me of central Madrid back in the mid-70s and got me to wondering if this is what Havana will look like with a fresh coat of paint. So old Spain! It turned out to be a great boutique hotel, a comfy room (although on the small side since it is an old building and there's only so much that can be done with a converted apartment building), helpful staff (yes, they carried our bags to our room), and very clean, well appointed public spaces with a tasty breakfast the next morning. And you can't beat the CasaBlanca theme; Bogie and Bacall are on a continual move loop either in the lobby or on a big projection screen at the back of the restaurant. Just a fun place to stay. We'd go back.

Room Tip: Get one with a balcony.
