“Kept coming back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

I booked one night here prior to boarding a cruise, came back for a night, travelled some more and chose to return before I left Puerto Rico. This hotel has a warm welcoming vibe with eclectic interesting decor. Always something to catch your eye. Rooms were very comfortable, and having three separate stays, I can say they're all a little different. The roof terrace could be "prettied" up a bit to match the rest of the hotel, but the bathtubs were certainly quirky. The big stand out at Casablanca were the excellent front desk staff who made recommendations for anything I required. Anna in particular was an absolute darling, going out of her way to help me make ongoing bookings. I would definitely recommend Casablanca in the heart of Old San Juan.

Room Tip: There is no lift/elevator in this hotel, so request a room on lower floors if you have heavy luggage...

Went to hotel the first saturday of may 2013. It was one of the choices my girlfriend and I had for our first night of honeymoon. We looked around for a hotel with personality, style, and value. This surely fit those caracteristics. The hotel is located in Calle Fortaleza in Old San Juan. When you walk down toward Teatro Tapia you will find it on your right. The lobby is really quaint but cozy. It makes you feel like you are someplace else and at the same time it fits right in with the variation hat Old San Juan has to offer. The rooms are accessible via stairs. These are adecuate in size and look vintage( which was a plus for us). Bed was a comfortable queen size and shower look modern. Room comes equipt with a flat screen, satellite tv, and a, just the right size, closet. On Sunday morning they offered a brunch(continental breakfast type). Overall we had a great time and are definitely coming back.

We arrived during the middle of a monsoon-like storm so one of the first things we saw after the airport was stepping out of the taxi into the beautiful lobby where a very helpful Rick (the co-owner) was there to help us. Check-in was a breeze and we hiked the stairs (this is an old building without an elevator, however they are planning to install one by sometime in 2014). I don't mind stairs, but keep this in mind before booking your room and packing heavily. They will assist you if possible, but you may run into a petite girl like the stunningly beautiful, Joyce (Rick's wife... seriously, they're a great-looking couple), and most guys will suck it up and carry their bags whether they are physically capable of lifting said luggage or not.

We had two nights in one room and two in another. Both bedrooms were decorated beautifully. One bathroom had modern appliances but probably was about due for a wall update. I would guarantee it was on their agenda, though, because our second room had a fantastic bathroom with a beautiful, modern sink. Beds were extremely comfortable. Rooms were quiet (4th and 5th Floor). Free wi-fi was stellar and a huge asset when scouting places to go. Oh, and they had tubs on the roof, of which you could fill with hot water and relax and watch the clouds roll by.

This is San Juan, though, and while your room is very important (hence, the reason you're reading this), perhaps what is directly outside your room is more important. The hotel is very close to Castillo de San Cristóbal (an absolute MUST visit), is directly across the street from our favorite dining experience (Marmalade), and a short walk to some of the best restaurants in town. If you will be on a cruise, I bet you could walk to and from the pier faster than a cab could get you there. It's most likely just a factor of youth and health (and whether your wife packed her entire shoe collection).

Breakfast was quaint and simple with a nice spread of various above-average samplings and some delicious coffee to help you start your day. If you wanted to upgrade to something a little fancier, they had options for that as well, but we were fine with the complimentary plates. Service faltered a bit when the staff was all male and the bosses weren't around (which was hilarious the morning the bosses walked in and they jumped to attention), but all of the girls were very helpful, no matter if they were being watched or not.

All in all, we found the CasaBlanca to be a terrific value and would stay again in a heartbeat! Much thanks to Rick, Joyce, and the entire CasaBlanca staff!

Room Tip: When booking, "Close to the action" means it's close to the road and "potentially...

Thank you for your great review! It truly "makes our day" when we hear honest feedback from our guests. We are indeed working on updating all the rooms and bathrooms with fixtures, paint, etc and will continue to improve all aspects of the hotel so stay tuned!

We hope you enjoyed our island as much as we enjoyed reading your review and will visit us again sometime in the future.... there's always lot's to see and do in Borinquen.

P.S. Thanks for the tip about the staff... I'll keep an eye on 'em ;-)

We live in Tortola and visit Old San Juan often when we are in need of a bit of culture, shopping and interesting architecture. This was our first stay at CasaBlanca and I was very pleasantly surprised.

Perfect location for exploring. Right opposite Marmalade (excellent restaurant). Good breakfast. Good friendly staff and helpful service. Rooms characterful (if not super luxurious).

We will definitely stay again.

I was originally suppose to stay one night at the Casablanca but I ended up adding an extra night prior to my arrival. The hotel was clean, the reception and staff were quite friendly and helpful. I had a basic room, it was a bit small but being in Old San Juan, I didn't want to stay in my room all day anyway so it suited well. My issue was the first night, which was a Thursday night, at 2 am a bunch of clients were partying it up in the cafe/bar area of the hotel (they had their own alcohol) and they decided that they should start singing out loud and playing guitar... it lasted for over 30 minutes and it was quite annoying... the second night (Friday), no such events so that was better. Aside of that I did enjoy the rooftop patio... it was nice sitting in the tup and relaxing. Again, it was clean, well located, (no lift tho, so people with mobility issue should avoid), friendly staff... con: small rooms, no lift...

We were only in San Juan for one night so we stayed in a cheap room here. The room itself was just a bed and a bathroom but was perfect for us. Everything was clean and well decorated. The hotel is in a perfect location if you are looking to explore old San Juan. The staff was great and very helpful. I would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to anyone staying in old San Juan.

Spent one night here prior to a cruise and thoroughly enjoyed the decor and friendly, helpful staff. It was a great venue for exploring Old San Juan. The room was fun, with beautiful furniture and mirrors. Bed was very comfortable. If I were staying for more than a day or two, it would've started feeling a little cramped though. We did not sample the continental breakfast, but on the recommendation of a staff member, found a nearby "diner" with a very satisfactory breakfast - the Cafeteria Mallorca. All in all, a lovely boutique hotel.

Room Tip: No elevator, so request a lower floor if available. We stayed on the 2nd floor, which was great.
