“Good location in old san juan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

We arrived there for our last night in san Juan .
The hotel is located in center of SJ old city and is a good base for all attractions .
The decoration in hotel lobby & room is really beautiful with attention to fine details.
the room is tiny without windows ...very stressful not to have fresh air , we were told no other rooms ara available and it was for one night so we did not bother to exchange .
there is no elevator so make sure to take a room on the lower floor (from 2nd floor).
Breakfast is pretty lame : old oily pastry , mini toasts , jam and peanut butter served with coffee . nothing exciting .
Bottom line : OK, nice for one night not more than that .

Dear Dafna,

Thank you so much for your feedback! It is amazing what real comments help in one choosing a hotel, specially when you don't know the city. Old Town is a safe and charming, you can walk everywhere but sometimes it can get crowded. Streets are narrow and sidewalks are even smaller. I can suggest, if you find a street to be crowded, switch sides or go up a street, it is funny how everyone walks the same street instead of wondering away from the crowd (that is my secret, it works all the time!).

Sorry breakfast was uninteresting, I know exactly what you mean! I have traveled a lot and continental breakfast is in my mind is always just not what you expect. I am going to do some research and see what we can do to make it more interesting.

I believe all your comments are of help for us to make this the ideal place for all future guests, so thank you again for your valued support!

This hotel is a great base to explore Old San Juan from and to stay some place with some old world class with a very nice Moroccan theme. The roof is a must with great views and big tubs for relaxing in after a day walking around the town.
There is a parking garage only a few blocks away if you have a car and its less then $10 a day.

We stayed here for 2 nights before a recent cruise. It was exactly what we wanted. We wanted to stay in Old San Juan as opposed to more commercial areas like Condado. We also wanted to be somewhat centrally located. The location was perfect! Right on Fortaleza, near many restaurants, bars and shops, short walks to San Cristobal and paseo de la princesa, and still a walkable distance from El Morro.

The Morrocan decor is fabulous. The lack of an elevator is somewhat daunting (if you travel with as much luggage as we did) but you know that going in and if you book early enough you can get a room on a lower floor. We stayed in suite 2B. It was perfect (1 king bed in the room with a balcony and 2 twin beds in the interior room). We were concerned that the nightlife would keep us up, but we hardly noticed it. However, the dumptruck on Friday morning was severely annoying, but I suppose that'd be a problem anywhere.

Overall, the hotel was lovely and we would stay there again.

With a one night stay in Puerto Rico before flying out to another island, we took advantage of staying in Old San Juan for it's proximity to the fort. Casablanca was a great place to stay with nice helpful staff, charming room with open balcony, and coffee and pastries in the morning. After staying at chain hotels near the airport, I'd recommend spending the extra couple bucks to have a little more charm and city life going on around you in Old San Juan. Sure you have to walk up the stairs because there is no elevator, but most of the experiences here are going to be done on foot anyway. If the night life noise outside seems loud, it's because you are in an actively pedestrian neighborhood where people are having fun walking to and from music venues and bars. We slept great after having some drinks and enjoying a salsa band nearby. We turned off the air and let in the breeze from the open balcony. Comfy bed. We'll be back to Casablanca the next time we are in San Juan.

Dear Natenmeg,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with everybody, and recommending Old Town as nightlife is great here, specially because you can walk everywhere. I went to the bar closest to us "Dos Cuernitos" (three buildings to the left) and found out they have live salsa every Thursday and Saturday, so definitely expect to hear the band if you book a balcony room on these nights. We have plenty of rooms with interior windows that provide for a good night sleep. Also, the suites have two rooms, one with the balcony and the other is an inside room with two twin beds with no window (away from the noise and very comfy). Rooms are separated by doors in between for both quiet and privacy, the bathroom is shared and is in the middle.

A quirky boutique hotel in the old town close, It captures the atmosphere of the original San Juan. The Casablanca movie theme is amusing at first but I can imagine it becomes a bit cliched after a while. It is a 3 star location, so dont expect Sheraton luxuries, but if you are looking for some character then it is definately recommended.

Dear Arthur,

Thank you so much for your feedback! We love the CasaBlanca theme and the Moroccan style because it disconnects you from your day to day life and really transports you to a different time. Walking the streets of Old Town is very charming, you could almost feel how the Spanish conquistadors lived as you walk over the narrow cobble stone streets. One of my favorites is the street "Paseo del Gambaro" which I take every day from the parking lot to the hotel, it makes me feel like I am living in a movie. We hope to see you back some day!

The hotel is nicely decorated, and a lot has been done to compensate for its being an old structure on a crowded street. As the name suggests, the hotel takes its decorative theme from the movie.

The staff is decent, but not overly-friendly. "Free Breakfast" is basically toast and coffee, anything more is a-la-carte. There are no elevators, which makes the hotel difficult for mobility-limited persons such as my wife. In fact, unknowingly we had been booked into a 5th floor room, which was simply an impossibility for her. They did move us the a 3rd floor suite, which was better but still a struggle.

The rooms are nicely appointed, with complimentary WiFi, but my computer would not lock up to internet access in the suite. I could take it down to the 2nd floor, where it would lock up, then return to the suite where it stayed locked up for several hours. Then repeat the process. I suspect some form of an IP address conflict.

Overall, probably not a bad choice if you want to stay in the center of activity of Old San Juan. But it's not a high-end luxury hotel, by any means.

Room Tip: Front rooms can get noisy, but didn't bother us much. I suggest packing a "San Juan" s...

Dear Agilberttx,

Thank you so much for your feedback! For all future guests please note that the number on the room is for the actual floor you will be on, and the letters are for the different room types. Let's say, if you book 5C you are booking on the fifth floor room C which is a standard queen size bed for $119. When you book thru our website you can see that the Suites are the letter B, and so forth, each room type has a different price.

We strive for five star customer service even though we are a three star hotel. I am happy our staff was good in accommodating your family to a lower floor, sometimes it is difficult to do that if the hotel is fully booked. We have since made sure a " No Elevator" notice is placed on our website booking page for everyone to know about this before they book. Other booking engines like Expedia or Orbitz, have a no elevator notice, but they display it in the amenities page and some guests never get to ready all the hotel details before booking. I went ahead and added it in the first line of the hotel description to see if this works.

We apologize for the internet situation, it turns out the WiFi receiver was not working on your floor. Our technician was able to put it back to work.

My wife and I travelled to San Juan with another couple. We really enoyed this hotel, it was clean and modern, the receptionist on arrival was extremely helpful and polite. The rooms had plenty of space with a very comfortable queen size bed, the en suite was modern and clean. The location was right in the centre of Old San Juan, so great for exploring the shops, the historic side of things, (or the bars!) We feel it was excellent value for money compared to other hotels. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: There is no lift so expect a hike up the stairs- it wasn't a problem for us
