“Delicious food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013 via mobile

Liked the food specially the "pasteles and pork. Family place with music, merengue, bachata and salsa. Great if you go with a group that enjoys that type off music.

“Following Andrew Zimmern - Not on a Tuesday!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

This place was the deciding factor to book Puerto Rico. Okay we're pigs apparently...

SYNOPSYS = TERRIBLE
Everything was dried out and old by Tuesday! Quarter of a pig - clearly all left over from the weekend. Most if not all the other lechoneras on the street were closed on a Tuesday, and I agree - stay closed. No music, no excitement, and worst of all, again the food was literally leftover from the weekend. I in fact gave my pig to one of the many stray dogs wandering about.

So I'm sure this place is amazing - but be warned, you must apparently come on the weekend!

“Andrew Zimmern was here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

Drive all the way up the hill and it will be on the right hand side. Just get in line, pick what you want and grab a seat! Everything is so good and cheap (piña colada goes well with all) plus good vibes they have going on there, the locals having fun dancing and live music every weekend. Check out Andrew Zimmern's show "bizarre food" in PR to see what this place is like.

“An experience you must have”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013 via mobile

This and an intimidating honey journey worth it. You must take 184 all the up the end. This took about 10-15 minutes. We were the only Americans, that we could tell and that was ok. Everyone was having a great time. We ended up getting pork, white rice, yellow rice, beans, yucca and 2 drinks for $16. What a bargain.
The food was simple and very good. Some of the meat was very dry but most was moist and delicious.
You can't beat the backdrop. A beautiful stream runs through where you eat, hang out and listen to festive, live music.
Unfortunately for us dog lovers, there were homeless dogs everywhere hoping to find someone that will share their meal with. My husband and I ended up giving 1/2 of our meal to them. It was very sad watching skinny, limping, neglected dogs while you were trying to enjoy yourself. We cut our trip short because of it.

“Must see location and must eat food...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

We visited El Rancho after a long day at Toro Verde National Park. We arrived around 2pm on a Sunday and the place was packed. The streets were lined with people and loud salsa music was playing - it was great. We waited in line for around 20 min to get the food. While Anthony Bourdain recommended the pork we found the pork and the chicken to be incredible. The texture was soft and the taste was amazing. We were the two only tourists that we could see which is slightly confusing as this is only an hour outside San Juan and the experience is one of a kind. HIghly recommend renting a car and driving out. Warning - the road to get there is typical mountain road - ups, downs, and light turns.
