We read some nice reviews about Al Salam, and the restaurant was recommended by a shop owner in Old San Juan.
Now, it really wasn't worth the (average) $16 for a main course. We had a chicken curry and a beef kebab. The curry was just yellow curry powder and the kebab was seasoned with some some season all spice mix. Both dishes came with plain rice and a boring salad. No bread or small side dishes (like humus or baba ganoush). You can order those separately, but then you get a big plate, not a small side dish.
I can't compare it to the other Arabian restaurants in San Juan, but if you want some Middle Eastern food, go to the Turkish restaurant in Old San Juan (Istanbul). Really great!
