Weeks after our far too short a stay at Lime Tree Farm, my wife and I continue to reflect back on, and delight in sharing with friends and travelers, our extremely fond memories of Lime Tree Farm.

Perched atop a beautiful hill high up in the verdant Blue Mountains of Jamaica, Lime Tree Farm offers comfortable, well-appointed cottage accommodations with a truely spectaular mountain vista of the surrounding mountain ranges, rivers, and down to the sea. The namesake blue haze that floats gently above the panorama is a sight to behold and, unfortunately, one that few travelers and fewer tourists will ever have the pleasure of witnessing because most will not trouble themselves to discover the rich rewards of a destination that is a little more difficult to reach.

While the stereotypical image of Jamaica in the mind's eye of most people that have never actually been to this iconic island is that of rum, reggae, and beaches, the Blue Mountains provide a true glimpse into the real Jamaica and the people that call her home. There is a genuine good-natured hospitality amoung the Jamaicans that you encounter here. Everyone greets you with a warm smile and welcome that has become increasingly hard to find in the primarily over-developed Caribbean of today.

Nowhere is this more evident than at Lime Tree Farm, which is the perfect outpost from which to enjoy all that the Blue Mountains have to offer. Charlie, an expat from the UK who has called Jamaica home for over twenty years, and his lovely Jamaican-born wife, Suzie, along with their good friend and partner, Roger (also originally from the UK), are the owners of the property and take personal care to ensure that you are comfortable and welcomed as if an old friend. Having spent my entire life managing hotels and resorts, I have always endeavored to ensure that guests realize they have met new friends by the time they return home. Charlie and crew are perhaps the only people that I have met in my own travels that have left me with this sensation. I expressed to my wife shortly after our departure that I almost felt embarrassed about how comfortable I was made to feel at Lime Tree.

The farm itself is far more than just a quaint 3 guest cottage mountain-top paradise retreat. It is also a working farm, complete with exotic fruit and vegetables, many of which find their way to your breakfast and dinner plates. Suzie is an extraordinary cook, albeit very humble and modest. She prepared for us many wonderful meals rich in traditional Jamaican ingredients and techniques. Jamaica has one of the richest culinary heritages in the entire Caribbean, which Suzie gave us the opportunity to experience instead of subjecting us to the standard continental fare that most restaurants in the Caribbean serve.

One of the main of many reasons I love to travel is to experience new cultures and geographic regions, which can only be accomplished by meeting the local people, experiencing new tastes and textures through their food and drink, and adventuring through their lands and waters. Lime Tree Farm, and the fabulous staff, allowed us to enjoy all of the above in great abundance. If you are looking for an authentic Jamaican vacation getaway that will leave you astounded and feeling renewed, look no further. If you still do not want to miss the beach and taste the salty sea on your lips, why not plan to spend one week at a Jamaican resort on or near the beach (check out Hotel Mocking Bird Hill in Port Antonio) and one week at Lime Tree Farm up in the Blue Mountains? It really does not get any better than a sea and mountain escape!

Sublime is just one word to describe a few days we spent at Lime Tree Farm. The road up is SHOCKING but that is part of the fun of being away from home, sort of. The views are wonderful; if you suffer from jetlag the sunrises are fantastic in the morning as a tonic. The cottages are light really spacious and clean (cleaned each day ). A good DVD collection in the evening if you want to just snuggle up with your partner and watch a film which we did a couple of times.

Food, is great, extremely fresh and varied, Suzie is so so modest - but she is a great cook and have tried to wean off my boyfriend from ackees that he now insists on cooking for breakfast on Sundays. Charlie's orange juice straight from the gardens is lovely to start the day. Dinner is fun you don't have to eat together but they are really good company and it's nice to have a chat and learn about the island a little more over Rum & Ting (why don't they have this in the UK?!).

Excursions we went to Mavis Banks Coffee Factory - great to find out why not to drink instant coffee, as well as Strawberry Hill, Lime Cay - would stick to the mountain excursions rather than down in grubby Kingston. It's a photographers dream, apparently birders (am not so into) and anyone that would like some space, quite incredible views, great coffee and a lot of fun walks etc on an actual coffee farm.

Blue Mountains Jamaica - Lime Tree farm - Jan 2008
Just returned from a great holiday in Jamaica and one of the highlights was Lime Tree Farm set amongst glorious mountain views in the Blue Mountains.
The cottages are well furnished and spotlessly clean and the views from them are stupendous.
The food is excellent - cooked by Susie and helped by Tiff - all Jamaican dishes - and the evening conversation with Charlie and gueats was really free flowing and relaxed.
There are some great trips - hiking in the surrounding hills and the nearby Coffee Factory is def worth the visit. This is def a place to visit for 3/4 full days - we stayed 4 nights and loved it.
It is prob not worth staying anywhere else in the Mountains apart from Limetree.
Charlie and Roger will organise any trips you want and all the places you want to visit are accessible from Lime Tree.
Blue Mountain peak is one of their trips and well worth it if the weather is clear - it is not that difficult if taken steadily.
Thoroughly recommend Lime Tree!

My fiancé and I spent just 4 nights here, but we were so relaxed by the time we left it felt like weeks. Lime Tree Farm is a really special place that feels totally removed from the world outside. There is no internet or TV and only intermittent mobile reception, and getting there is a bumpy 1hr 30mins drive from Kingston Airport. It isn’t luxurious in the 5 star resort sense, but the spotless cottages have everything you could want. The beds are huge and extremely comfortable, there is a jar of freshly ground Blue Mountain coffee to go with the in-room coffee maker, and a big book of DVDs to watch. The view out of the window is across an enormous valley towards Blue Mountain Peak in one direction and the sea visible in the distance. Sitting on our terrace watching the constantly changing mist, clouds and rainbows across the peaks was far better than our usual holiday viewing of 24hr news channels. For us, however, the best thing of all was the feeling that we were guests in a home rather than being in a hotel and we learnt far more about Jamaica than we could ever have done in a hotel or resort. There are only 3 cottages, and while we were the only guests during our visit, I can’t think it would ever feel crowded. Charlie and Roger, who own the place and have built most of it themselves in between leading fascinating lives, took us on some amazing trips – to the magical isolated botanical gardens at Cinchona, for brunch at Strawberry Hill and to the Blue Mountain coffee factory (where it is a quarter of the price than in London). In between their Jamaican partners, Suzie and Tiff, cooked us amazing food, and were always around to chat. Everyone was incredibly generous with their time, taking us round the coffee plantation below the cottages, guiding us on walks and generally taking the time to tell us about Jamaica and its history. To sum up it is probably the most unique and chilled place we have ever stayed and we really hope to get back there to see how things develop. Fingers crossed the hurricanes leave the island alone for the next decade.

Hi we spent a very relaxing time at Lime Tree in one of the beautiful
cottages with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. Many thanks to Charlie and Susie for making our break so special, not forgetting of course the enigmatic Leroy.
